Roy J. Baldwin Should Stick to Divorce Court

Roy Baldwin (left); Laurie Cole's Son with Camera (right)
Roy J. Baldwin is a local attorney specializing in family law and he hates this site something fierce as evidenced by his emails. He also doesn't seem to think much of the intelligence of Vienna citizens (sound familiar?). At tonight's candidate debate Baldwin handed out copies of a lawsuit in an attempt to scare people. We don't doubt that tactic may work for Roy in the short term, but he is going to be looking for cover when that lawsuit exposes his buddies on Town Council. And lastly, since Roy is involved in the Vienna Chamber of Commerce in a leadership capacity, does the Chamber of Commerce endorse his brand of smear politics? Does the Chamber endorse the politics in general of Baldwin?
Note: The video camera to the right was operated by a representative of Laurie Cole. Interesting. Why is Cole taping candidate debates, but keeping Town Council meetings off cable?

I was present and I was told that this guy who was a lawyer was handing out material. Why does he feel that he has to intimidate people? It goes to show you how far incumbent Council persons will go to try and make an issue out of nothing... Robinson and Cole (both present) would rather have you hear about issues that serve only to advance their own agendas!

Good Old Boy Roy sits on the Vienna-Tysons Board of Directors's and is the VP of Government Affairs. The following blurb was taken directly off the www.vtrcc.org website "The Vice President, Government Affairs, acts as the Chamber's liaison with local and state governmental officials. (Something is starting to stink here) He strives to develop an active committee with high visibility in the community. He also advises the Board as they develop and advocate positions (smear campaigns?) to further the interests of Chamber members." Hmm...... Sure doesn't seem that hard to imagine this guy isn't a Town Council Puppet does it? One would have to assume that he was representing the VTCC in his capacity as the VP of Government Affairs at the candidate debate and trying to influence the Town election. Imagine this... one of the new blood candidates that Good Old Boy Roy is smearing in his capacity as the VP of Government Affairs for the VTCC actual wins a seat on Council. Would this serve the VTCC well? Is the VTCC happy with the commercial corridor as is? If the VTCC wants to interject themselves into Vienna's politics I want to hear their thoughts. Do other Town businesses agree with Roy's agenda? When are people going to learn that this isn't Mayberry anymore?

Once you start looking closely into organizations like churchs, Chambers of Commerce, and Town governments, it quickly becomes apparent how things work, who knows who to call to get some special consideration. Us average Joe citizens are not in this loop. Old Roy is probably very keen to not see long-time politicos in Town government bounced out in the coming election for fear that this might degrease the lines of communication between his chamber and theirs. It could mean one less Town Council favorite willing to innocently plead 'we goofed' after their next pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey vote to cram too many businesses around too few parking spaces, or to allow a bus stop to persist with no safe pedestrian access, or to reserve more walkway space for flowers than for pedestrians! So let's get this straight... Roy runs around a candidate meeting handing out material to a captured audience to suggest that certain candidates are associated with or in favor of a lawsuit, and that this is suppose to somehow expose or embarrass those candidates? Really? Is that public lawsuit really that embarassing? Are citizens not suppose to disagree with or challenge their elected government? And if we do, we then can't run for office to try and fix that which we think is flawed? Roy, yours is a scare tactic, it is an attempt to smear, and it does imply that you think the electorate is stupid. Beware the thinking person, Roy, this is not your divorce court where emotion is exploited over intellect. Now Roy, what about a handout on the real issues that concern our Town government and its residents? Or is that not the sort of handout that interests your Chamber of Commerce and warrants your time away from family?

Now I thought Vienna Town politics were supposed to be non-partisan, but Roy sure broadcasts his politics for the whole wide world to see, huh (www.fundrace.org/neighbors.php). Wonder if the Vienna-Tysons Chamber of Commerce shares his political views seeing that he is the VTCC VP of Government Affairs?

The Cole-Baldwin connection...Taken directly from 6/20/05 Town of Vienna Clerk Minutes on the Town's website...."Councilwoman Cole spoke of attending the Vienna-Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce installation luncheon. She indicated that ... Roy Baldwin, a member of the Town/Business Liaison Committee, had been re-appointed as the Vice Chairman of Governmental Relations. Councilwoman Cole stated that everyone was looking forward to working with the Chamber this coming year..." Seems like Cole and Roy Boy are chummy! Wonder how well she knows him? Maybe she had knowledge or dare I say participated in Roy Boy's smear tactics? Kinda hard to believe her "I'm the victim of personal attacks" BS now, huh.

Roy should do his pre-trial investigation better. He is obviously negligent, and this from a lawyer? I wonder if his trial work is similarly sloppy. He certainly should be aware that the Town of Vienna, years ago, wished to make many of the residential homes along Church Street and other homes in the NE quadrant, part of a new Historic District, and the response was an overwhelming, "Absolutely No!" I say, Roy, you think those papers are designed to scare us? How stupid can you be, we are on their (the litigants) side, we know what they are going through, and we hope to see their lawsuit decided against the side of the Town of Vienna, but we would much rather had seen the Town of Vienna do the right thing in the first place and not waste our tax dollars. Why do you think so many people are supporting the new candidates? The Town Government is too arrogant and simply ignores the real issues we as citizens think and know are important! Roy, take the advice in Paul Simon's Song: 50 Ways to Leave your Lover, and get out of Town! (...Just slip out the back, Jack. Make a new plan, Stan. You don’t need to be coy, Roy...)

Wow! Roy's working the late shift protecting lines of communication at home! What about the issues, Roy? How about a handout like Edythe Frankel Kelleher's that speaks to real issues like community standards, openness in Town government, environmental controls and ridiculous water rates!
