Historic District Supporters Come In All Shapes and Sizes

Response: Civic association votes? When was this? You don't mean that crazy meeting from 2003 where this letter was read? Are you the author of that letter?

"All your rights aren't "inherent". Have you ever been a member of a homeowner's association? They dictate and regulate tons of things you can and cannot do (e.g. some of them ridiculous). I see the district in the same light."

Response: Ok. Let's follow your logic of a civic association comparison. What are the rules? Please be specific.

"Your logic is that the district is flawed so let's leave it or do away with it. That's logical?"

Response: Flawed laws, like Plessy v. Ferguson, are abolished. You don't "improve" or "fix" bad laws. At this late stage of the game don't you wonder why the Council has taken no steps to resolve? One minute they say it is a problem, next minute they say it is not.

"Some of your supporters/residents were involved in creating the district and it's ordinances (or lack thereof) - they should be the ones to point fingers at as they helped creat [sic] this mess.

Response: Those party to the lawsuit did not create the District or the current disaster. They have not supported any of the nonsense that has unfolded since 1979. The District was created by the Vienna Town Council and assorted Town busy bodies.

"Has anyone tried to get them fixed by any constructive method?"

Response: In the past people petitioned for removal when abuses started and the Council obliged. Why don't you petition to be included in the District so YOU can fix it? You have already stated you live near the border, why not be included? We are sure your house, wherever it is, has as much historicity as any other house in the District.
