Richard Denbow & Howard Springsteen: Incompetent

Vienna Politicians 'Receiving' Approvals

Richard Denbow and Howard Springsteen serve on the Vienna Transportation Safety Commission. For the intersection of Church and Lawyers, they should both be relieved of duty. How many more accidents have to happen at that intersection for these busy bodies to do something? They should both stop kissing Maud's butt and propose a solution for the intersection - an intersection the Vienna Police will flatly admit is the worst in Vienna. Stop sign, stop light - do something please. And yes, there was another accident there today. What will it take? A dead child on the sidewalk for you to act? That will be too late of course and given the known problems not fixed - lawsuits will cost the Town plenty when the worst happens.

Why is this not fixed? Denbow and Springsteen don't care about safety, they care about what Mother Maud wants. Maud doesn't want the intersection fixed, so her political piglets Denbow and Springsteen keep ignoring the problem. Pathetic isn't? Vienna needs leaders, not twits.

And what's going on at the Park/Tapawingo intersection? There was an accident, then a meeting and decision to install a 4-way stop, then some internal dissent over that decision by public works, then they installed stop sign posts with no signs, then there was another accident, and then they installed traffic measurement equipment. I figure we're due for another accident before they get the signs installed. A 4-way stop will definitely make that intersection safer mostly because it will discourage idiots from passing on the right in a 2-lane intersection... but then some white shoulder lines, warning signs, and law enforcement would have helped that.

I'm still waiting for a 4-way stop sign at Lewis/West NW. Of course, it's never happened because of George Lovelace's house sitting right on the corner.

I've never witnessed an accident but how many near misses & slamming of breaks before it happends? And, yes, the traffic in the NW quandrant steadily gets worse every year.

The Town must read this site because the traffic equipment at Park and Tapawingo came down and the stop signs went up PRONTO first thing Monday morning.

FYI to Bird's Eye - As of Today (Monday) the four way stop signs have been posted at Park and Tap.

Yes, we all read it.

Well, I have to say that the new 4-way stop at Park and Tapawingo is an immediate huge improvement! It makes you wonder if the Town really knows what it is doing? Why did they take so long to do this and why were they so unsure of the need and the now obvious solution? Sort of explains the ridiculous on-a-hill all-way stop they installed at Glyndon and Ayito... an intersection with virtually no cross traffic and certainly no need for an all-way stop. Here's a clue, Vienna, remove the stop signs on Glyndon at Ayito... they are not needed. And fix the intersection at Church and Lawyers... it's another ridiculous situation you have allowed to persist for too long. Stay tuned... I'm sure folks here can put together a proposal on how to fix that intersection. And remove Maud's historic Freeman Store Christmas tree from the island at Church and Mill... it violates Town setback code and it blocks driver visibility at that busy industrial/commuter intersection. Put a tree in your Town Green if you have to string lights... 30 feet back from the corner like the Town code says. The law can be so inconvenient sometimes. When you fail to respect your own laws, other will soon follow your lead.

Hi Town Green! I have never met you that I know of, but perhaps we have met secretly! It's funny that people use other than their own names to post on this site....Who are you?

I do agree that the stop signs on Glyndon and Ayito are not needed. I also agree that the intersection of Church and Lawyers is a mess - What I heard (from a NEVCA member) is that is is purposfully a mess to discourage traffic on Church Street...) But it needs to be adressed.

So far as your Christmas Tree concern - TOV is well aware of that - Unfortunately, (for the TREE, I presume)that mis-shapen evergreen (?) is none too attractive to anyone.

There IS, IN FACT, a new "Holiday Tree" that is being planned and planted at the Town Green.

So, as noted, I am PRO TOWN GREEN - Once completed, it will be a thing of beauty and a joy 4-ever!

Viva Vienna! Viva Town Green!

I prefer to remain anonymous.

This doesn't make sense. Of course, it's irresponsible, but also, because Church Street is the path of least resistance when traveling either direction except perhaps on Sunday mornings. The intersection in question does not deter me from using Church Street except when I might want to make a left on to Lawyers... which can be avoided by turning left sooner on Center Street or by turning right on Lawyers and then cutting through the Historic District which I do frequently to escape that intersection.

Question: The NEVCA website suggests Northside Park is an issue. What's the issue? I hope nobody is going to mess with those woods. And somebody ought to tell the residents on the north boundary to stop dumping their yard waste in the park... a chronic problem around Vienna. Yard waste can help fill low areas and stop erosion, but mostly it just smothers the natural forest flora and builds a fire hazard close to buildings.
