Political Morons Force Vienna Citizens to Lose...AGAIN!

We reported earlier about a 'dog and pony' study Vienna contracted out for Maple Avenue. The study (PDF) was released today. Since the Town refused to provide an electronic format, we provide it for all residents.
There is one big problem with this study: it only covers from Beulah to Lawyers. It leaves out Maple Avenue from Lawyers to Nutley and leaves out Beulah to East. Why is this relevant? Name the properties on Maple Avenue between Beulah and Lawyers that are capable of being redeveloped? Beyond Giant and Safeway, there is no land.
The Town knows that the Tara Thai building, Marco Polo, the Wolf Trap Motel, The Tower Building and the SunTrust Bank building are all ready to explore new ideas, but they were all left out of the study.
In effect, this study was political cover for those (read: Maud) who want to pretend they are progressive, but in actuality have no intent on anything ever changing. Of course, this will fool some sheep into believing something is about to happen. Don't be fooled, it's all mental masturbation by the Garden Club gals. So if you want a nice day of walking, nice shops, and attractive buildings, at least Fairfax City's new development is close by.

Comments
I recall this being the $10k study, which struck me as too cheap to be a serious effort. For comparison, they are spending over $100k to study how to fix the new-police-building-is-way-to-small screw-up.

Your half truths always amuse me.
Lets be fair, the study does state: "Although the geographic scope of the project is limited to these blocks, it is intended that the findings and recommendations presented in this report are applicable to commercial areas that are substantially similar but outside of the specific study area."

Good job "Unbiased view." You will get a special gift for that post! Isn't it great that you actually said nothing, but you sounded smart? I love it! That study group can intend whatever they want, if we intended it to be beyond the area we defined - we would have done so!

"Unbiased View" is either:
1. A Town Council Member
2. A Vienna Board Member
3. A friend or family member of 1 or 2.
4. A moron who has not bothered to understand that the Town itself studied the Maple Avenue corridor for 3 years under the guise of the Maple Avenue Vision Committee, which wrote a report and concluded all parts of Maple Avenue must be included.

What is amusing is how this study managed to leave Maud's huge empty parking lot off the map. Fig1 doesn't shade it red and Fig2 actually hides it with a perfectly sized distance scale... which probably isn't even to scale! I guess that explains the shortage of parking at Maud's end of Town!
I also like all of the references to "preserving residential areas". Do you think cramming a stack of Locust Street condos onto the old 7-11 lot in SE will preserve that R12.5 residential area..., DB? Perhaps Maud really is a fraud.

Hey unbiased view, why did Maud show bias when SHE directed this study to include only the area she dictated? It amazes me how the rest of the Council still perceives her as a deity. I am still waiting for someone on Council to stand up and say enough is enough. I am waiting for the day that Council will make decisions that are best for the good of the entire town and not what Maud perceives as best for some mythological New England Town. So Sad.

This site provides citizens the up-to-date info that is going on in this town. Even the town would prefer to keep things out-of-the-know for as long as they can. This town boost about being a small-town and yet communication is awful. The town refuses to have open communication except with the bad boy network. The town wants to keep things quiet. If they have educated citizens about what is really happening in this town, then citizens might give the town/town council suggestions or problems. They only want to tell citizens certain things that make the town look good.

"frustrated citizen for years" don't you get it? As long as we keep our little Council meetings off cable, we win. You can complain all you want, but as long as no one can watch us, we are untouchable!
