1st Amendment Under Attack in Vienna
It has come to our attention that assorted members of Town Boards and Commissions believe right NOW that this site and others will soon have their content regulated. The view is that somehow technology has not caught up and a site like this is getting away with something - whatever that means. It makes you really wonder about the psyches of those who control the political reigns in Vienna. Or perhaps it is not really surprising given this same group attempted to ban video.

Dear Town Council, Boards, Commission, etc.:
That sound you hear is me laughing my ass off.
NOW I have conclusive evidence that indeed, you folks are the biggest idiots around.
I look forward to reading HistoricVienna.com until you numbnuts are run out of office, and Historic Vienna is no more.

The statement was something along the line that if this website was a real newspaper that this site could not exist, but since it is individuals, the law has not caught up. One of these people was reminded of the first amendment, that however did not register. With a straight face he said that this site will soon be regulated. That is straight from the mouth of someone sitting on a Vienna board stated on Jan 18, 2007.

They should be thankful we don't attend their meetings! Regulate blogs? That's just too funny! Who died and put them in charge? Laws not catching up with free speech? How about free speech is catching up with public servants who think they can do whatever they please once the election is over. No more. To suggest otherwise is to not understand what the Internet is doing to improve our democracy. Behave or beware... you can't hide behind your newspaper anymore!

What is most telling is one's inability to post their position here, anonymously or otherwise, and trust it to explain, defend, and be understood to some degree of certainty and acceptance. A voice of reason can prevail if heard. Why so mum, Maud? No reason?

Town Green that point may be the most important point made on this blog since it was launched. In the face of an unending barrage of attacks grounded in factual information, if there was 'reason' to the Town Council's actions and motives, they surely would have attempted to explain themselves by now. They say nothing and that speaks volumes. It's almost as if they view this new information flow as a pest that will go away, all the while praying the over 80 set is not paying attention or doesn't really care. Your point was subtle, but important.

Dear Town Green,
Mr. Town Green, I do have a reason not to post on this site, and it is simply because, you cannot do anything to hurt my legacy or good standing here in town. I have built a strong machine here, and no threats of whistle blowing will tease my cronies into ratting me out, because I know where all the skeletons are buried. THAT my folks is POWER!
So, with power like that, I AM INVINCIBLE!
HA HA HA HA HA HAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Dear Maud Friend Typing for Maud:
Who you calling Mister?
Although your post is fabricated, I'll address the point. It's common knowledge that negative ads work. Even more so when the information is rational and legitimate. It's also common knowledge that negative ads must be swiftly refuted... or else be swiftly boated. Hemming, hawing, and hyding doesn't cut it. Nor does too little too late... yes, Beulah Rd. is 20 years overdue... so are many other ridiculous eyesores around town like the narrows of Manvell Rd. SE. No problem spending $7 million of our tax dollars on your pet project but don't lift a finger to finish building our neighborhood streets... always money into escrow but never into our neighborhoods. We just love the election season cookie crumb you have so kindly doled out to Vienna NE... the Northside connector trail... how good of you to remember your promise and think of us in NE after all these years. But that's not swift enough to avoid being your own downfall.
And incidentally, the proposed Northside connector trail does not need to be a raised walkway to "save trees". This is nonsense and a waste of money to build and maintain. A simple path on the ground will suffice. It may be time to reconsider Cathy Salgado's appointment by the dynasty. Look at her management of the Waters Field project... the contracted work... the turf field looks great... but the surrounding Town maintenance is pitiful. Why leave the gravel pit at the entrance to the field? This crap is polluting the new field surface! Why not just pour a concrete entrance walk to help finish the entrance way and preserve the field. And prohibit thoughtless adults from parking their cars in front of the field gate? Finish the job, Cathy! Like your Maple Ave. project... it's full of messy loose ends. Remove the gravel driveway entrance to Waters Fields and pour a decent concrete walkway before the field suffers more mud and gravel pollution.

Dear Town Green, you mentioned that money always goes into escrow, presumedly for subdivision curbing, guttering and side walks, but not into our neighborhoods. Correct, but the money doesn't stay in escrow very long, i.e. it's xferred to general funds and spent for other things (the Town Green?).
