Maud and Laurie Blow Hard About Tysons Corner
From the Sun Gazette today come this bit of news:
Members of the Vienna Town Council Monday night expressed concern that traffic in Tysons Corner, already congested, will become unmanageable if Fairfax County officials continue approving massive redevelopments there. “The word for development at Tysons is ‘tsunami,'” Town Council member Maud Robinson said at the council meeting. “It's going to be unbelievable,” she said. Council member Laurie Cole said the council has approached county officials about the need to view developments in a broader context. “We were rebuffed,” Cole said. “All of us are going to be living with the consequences of this piecemeal approach to land use.” Robinson said that solid planning tools are being ignored in an effort to jump-start transit-oriented projects in Tysons Corner and Dunn Loring. “A good principle, like smart growth, is being corrupted for the sake of development,” she said.
Isn't this great? A couple of do nothing Vienna politicians, seemingly only capable of moaning, have the solutions to Tysons growth? We would like to see Robinson and Cole pipe down about Tysons and try to resolve something, anything within Vienna's borders. Isn't it painfully obvious by now that the County views Maud Robinson and Laurie Cole as simply loud mouth gadflies?
There Is A Reason Robinson and Cole Were "Rebuffed"

Comments
Laurie why do you think you were REBUFFED? Remember how you and Maud handled the Metro West Project. Connelly and the rest of the board are still upset over your antics. You both need to be voted out.

Your point is fair, except I think they can still be right about their observations of the coming Tysons rebuild. Tysons is a development joke as it is currently built, and it is likely to get worse as they try to fix it with new development. Trying to rebuild Tysons as some kind of magical urban center is absolutely ridiculous in view of existing conditions in NOVA... exploded bedroom communities with incrediably inadequate infrastructure for cars, pedestrians, and commuters. There are and should be limits to growth. What is about to happen to Tysons will only make daily life worse in Vienna. The rail extension and widening of Route 7 and the beltway will not spare Vienna from increased congestion. Get ready for more of the same... lots more for years to come. I would bet the county folks and developers could care less about personalities in Vienna... for them, the real problem is that the Town of Vienna is choking access to Tysons. I bet they would love to raze the flea/quilt/pawn shops and widen 123 between 66 to Tysons.

We don't think Cole and Robinson have much useful political anything in the tank. They are clearly viewed in a negative fashion within Fairfax County. Why? They just gripe and offer nothing. Ultimately WE don't own that land. Clearly Fairfax County is changing at light speed. The wheels are in motion. Tysons Corner is going to be larger and denser, etc. It's coming. Horse is out of the barn. If that is the case then Vienna needs representatives who can negotiate something on behalf of Vienna, not just these two ding-a-lings whistling Dixie about the good ole days.

In a quick conversation with our County Supervisor at ViVa Vienna, she told me flat out Vienna needs to get on board with change or they'll be left behind.
I have NO problems with any of the Tyson's development. In fact, I love going up the mall and shopping. And, it's even better now with the new garage, restaurants & stores.
Somewhat different topic - wasn't Laurie also a headache regarding the Wedderburn development?! Where does that stand now? I also remember them all bitchin' about a creek - didn't Bukont build a house OVER a creek on McHenry?!

Doesn't it stink to be powerless & politically insignificant?
Maud & Laurie, now you know what it feels like to be a Town resident who isn't part of your inner circle of lies and back room dealings.

Wasn't great how Maud and I subdivided my land and built two hoses to block the Abottsford Drive bypass. I was smart enough to take my profits and get the hell out dodge.

Town Green-observations and blaming are all that TC ever does. A few nice soundbites and that is it. No leadership, no solutions required! Inaction is action!
