Police Back to the Basement; More Town Council Incompetence
15 years ago the Vienna Police moved out of the Town Hall basement to a new facility. Due to the mind blowing incompetence of leaders like Maud Robinson, the Police are now moving back into the basement at Town Hall. That is pathetic long term planning on behalf of the Vienna Town Council. One reader writes to criticize this web site:
"...I'm sure you saw the article in the Connection about the police department's new space in the basement of town hall. Despite your intense criticism of the project, the cops seem quite happy with it. Of course, they could be lying Maudites, but I trust our cops to be honest...I'm relying on the quotes from police officers interviewed in the article. Are you saying they are lying?"
Brilliant! Ladies and gentleman, the Chewbacca defense (straw man fallacy) is back! We are against inept Town Council decisions, not the Police, but nice try! You can watch the original South Park video of the defense here.

"Chewbacca Defense Has Worked in Vienna for Decades!"
"I Hate the Color Red. Police? Yeah, Whatever."

Seriously, what are the cops supposed to say about the police station debacle?! Maud and all the town's politicians are a bunch of raging morons with no foresight for planning?!
Oh, I'm sorry - that is what I would say.

Our Police deserve better. Sadly though this TC has little respect for anyone but themselves.

Instead of squeezing that tiny new police station in behind the Bowman house craft barn, the Town should have gotten out of the crafts business, leveled the barn, and built an adequate police and records facility. Instead, they maintain an old barn for ocassional pottery classes while Town police go to work every day in a basement. Pottery crafts over basic public service and employee welfare... you can thank the garden club visionaries!

I call the shots the way I want in this town, and until you are in my position, or I am gone, shut up!

Mr. Factoid, How dare you grossly mis-characterize Laurie Cole with that picture of Cartman!

This blog offers you anonymity (not really but it would take legal action to trace you), but the burden of proof is still on you to post something worthwhile... something worth reading besides a drive-by one liner. A steady alias can earn a valued reputation just like a real name. I suggest you pick an alias and stick with it, or else you will never build value and cultivate an audience here that will care to listen to what you have to say. And if you don't establish a reputation here, you will be presumed to be among the disenfranchised and of no concern or consequence... you will just be wasting your time on the Internet. And here all along you thought the price of admission was free!

I like that line: drive by one liner!...
Great posts, too.

You are missing the bigger story, LOL. When the town first decided to renovate that property, they put the project out to bid. It is my understanding that once a project goes out to bid, they are supposed to go with the lowest bid. But the town decided to ignore the bid process, and town employees did the work themselves. And no, it wasn't out of the kindness of their hearts, they were paid. The question is...were they doing work on town hall while they were on duty for the town? How did they get paid? Separately, or were off duty employees just paid overtime, depleting the funds of the already cash-strapped police budget? Is this kind of cronyism even legal, and did the people doing the construction work have current licenses to do this kind of work? And once these town employees took over the project, even the appearance of a bid process went out the window...all the sub-contractors were either friends of town employees, or town employees themselves. So...Who benefited from that $100,000 spent on the renovations mentioned in the Connection article?
