Wake Up! Comments (11)

A post from reader "Town Green" today:

The Town News Letter with candidate statements has arrived. It's time for new people, Vienna. Lovelace has nothing to add (say) and Robinson runs on history... "Vote for me, Maud, because I control it all and it will all fall down if you don't". This voter resents being asked to grant Lovelace another "special privilege just because", and I resent Maud's scare tactics and false starts on issues that have languished far too long. It is time for Lovelace and Robinson to retire. Why wait for them to expire in office... Town government is not a retirement plan at tax payer expense. Vote, Vienna! Send Maud and George home for a couple years and bring in some new energy... all of Town staff will be renewed with a fresh start.

Noticeably missing from the candidate statements is any mention of our new glorious Town Green. Now isn't that interesting! An $8m and counting centerpiece capital improvement? project and nobody responsible for it wants to take credit or talk about it! I'd say they are running scared. It's vote for me May 1 and back to my garden club government May 12 at my Town Green dedication. Wake up, Vienna, and go vote!

Scott J. Krischke of the Connection Shares Some Kool-Aid with Laine Hyde Comments (7)

From the Connection Newspaper comes an article of well-placed propaganda. As you read the article below keep in mind that Historic Vienna, Inc. (not to be confused with HistoricVienna.com) is a Town run, taxpayer funded "club". Also:

1. Laine Hyde is a conniving politician, not some nice little old lady preserving history.
2. The wife of Mayo Stuntz (mentioned in the article) left Vienna's historic review board several years ago after it was pointed out that she had lied about owning property in Vienna.
3. While the Connection Newspaper (and Maud's new sock puppet Scott J. Krischke) might be willing to play along with Maud's charade to prop up a phony Vienna history (wasting tax dollars and his nascent reporting reputation to do it), this site serves as a reminder as to who these people really are.

Bottom line: The Town refuses to tape their own meetings, but they spend tax money to tape whoever rambling about whatever at the Freeman Store. Nice, but as expected with this crowd. The "feel good" article in question:

Long before it was a Jiffy Lube car repair center, the plot of land at the corner of Maple Avenue and Lawyers Road in downtown Vienna was the site of a wooden home where, on Oct. 15, 1915, Vienna resident Mayo Stuntz was born. "Vienna was little, the streets were not paved, they were all gravel back in those days," said Stuntz, 91, who still resides a mile south of town. "So in time, you started seeing more paving, and there was a lot of road-building, and after that they did a lot of school-building."

George Lovelace: Time to Retire Comments (4)

It is 2007, not 1985. The time has come for fresh blood and the word fresh can't be used to describe anything about George Lovelace. Vienna has real challenges that are not being met. We don't need people on Council who are there to feed their ego and get adulation. You don't like our tone? Look at it politically. What has George Lovelace done on Vienna Town Council since 2003? Exactly - nothing.

Even Vienna Police Have to Launch Freedom of Information Requests to Find the Truth in Town Hall! Comments (4)

This letter (PDF) was sent to Town Hall by the Vienna Police Association. We are sliding to a very bad place in this Town when our own Police can not get straight answers from Maud and Jane. This feels like the tip of the iceberg.

What does Maud say to all of this? "Start the shredder!"

Herndon Community Television Comments (15)

Why does Vienna not have this? The moment Vienna goes on TV Jane, George and Maud go by the way of the dinosaur. The first moment they belittle or attack a citizen on cable TV is the moment they are cooked. Oh we forgot, Falls Church too. Reston, yup them too.

Maud Plays Hide and Go Seek Too Comments (16)

Hiding from the camera is a relatively new trick in Vienna politics. First, it was Laine Hyde. Then Jane Seeman. Now, tonight Maud Robinson has started "hiding". That's not just Maud holding up a picture, that's a nutty politician talking behind a piece of paper and waving her finger. Washington Post reporters are you watching one of the craziest political scenes imaginable in one of the country's wealthiest counties? You know what would also be instructive for Vienna residents? Have Maud and Jane sit through a polygraph.

George Creed Votes For His Wife's Financial Well Being at Green Hedges School Comments (16)

Green Hedges School in Vienna recently came forward with a program for an expanded school in a residential area. They appeared before the Planning Commission and lost on a unanimous vote. George Creed, who is on the Planning Commission recused himself on the vote because his wife works there (and since he was being filmed). Green Hedges then scaled back the plan and went before the Planning Commission again. Since there were no cameras this time, Creed voted and the school project passed. What a way to give your wife financial security! Creed should be tossed off this Board immediately for knowingly committing a gross conflict of interest. Anyone who has seen this moron speak in public knows we are not exaggerating. Georgie boy, you better watch yourself, conflicted politicians often get in trouble with law enforcement.

Freedom of Information Day; Start the Shredder Up Jane! Comments (0)

From a reader:

Freedom of Information (FOI) Day is an annual event on or near March 16, the birthday of James Madison. Madison is widely regarded as the Father of the Constitution and as the foremost advocate for openness in government. This year's FOI Day will take place on March 16, 2007.

Jane "The Mad Shredder" Seeman hates this day more than any other! Her favorite holiday is of course Peek A Boo Day.

The Town Green Is One Hungry Dollar Pig Comments (6)

From the Connection this week comes this excerpt:

"This year, there has been a focus on the town green and town beautification," she said, underlining that staff and council have requested a review of possible increases to programming funds of Vienna's Parks and Recreation Department to manage and implement activities at the new multi-million dollar town green, slated to open on May 12. Town staff members are looking to form more partnerships with local businesses and community organizations to offset those increases as much as possible, according to Cathy Salgado, director of Vienna's Department of Parks and Recreation.

Sidewalks? No.

Roads? No.

Water savings? No.

It's Town Green time people. Open up your wallet and give the Garden Club your money. They do after all need to finish construction of their bike path bath house. This spending on a tiny, no functionality park, is a joke.

Vienna Resident Speaks Out Comments (4)

A resident of Vienna recently put forward this letter to the editor:

I have had enough of the tax increases, ill-advised spending, projects that do little to improve our life in Fairfax County and Vienna, lack of meaningful information, and general waste. Now, we find that the Town of Vienna has conducted another self-serving pay study to inflate Town employee salaries beyond reasonable. Imagine employees of the Town with salaries approaching $140,000. Anyone who has dealt with the Town knows that the employees are certainly not over-worked.

Pay Issues with Town Staff; Something Is Brewing Comments (17)

An email was received today. We felt we should pass it along to everyone for feedback - good or bad. It included (4) PDFs (1, 2, 3, 4) and said the following:

I am an admirer of your site, and wanted to pass on some information I wasn't sure you were aware of. Recently the Town decided to commission a pay study by a company called the Archer Company. One of the key contentions for this was to correct any issues with existing positions, and also meet the Town's (stated) goal of being within 5% of the median pay of surrounding jurisdictions. All employees were required to fill out a questionnaire, with a load of questions it took many people hours to go through, understand, and then respond to.

While Vienna's Roads & Sidewalks Cave In, The Town Green Rises! Comments (1)

Two Town supplied PDFs regarding the Town Green: #1 & #2. Why has Maudasaurus not put this kind of energy into sidewalks for the rest of Vienna? Hint: she doesn't care.

Many Views of Same Event Comments (1)

While we recently reported on the Chamber of Commerce Casino night (here and here), we thought in terms of balance we should report the Sun Gazette's version of the night:

"The event featured revelers who enjoyed a luau-themed evening and helped support the Chamber. No matter that the calendar said March 3. It was luau time for the Vienna-Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber's annual Casino Night and Taste of the Town, held at the Westwood Country Club, brought out the local business community for a night of fun. An annual tradition, the Casino Night features great food and plenty of camaraderie. This week's Sun Gazette has a full page of photos from the celebration."

Maud Robinson's Asphalt Wonderland; After 50 Years of Her Hard Work, We Have Parking Lots! Comments (18)

Maud Robinson lives in the fantasy world that the new Town Green is the center of Vienna for a redevelopment of Vienna. Clearly, it is not. It is landlocked with limited roads and limited land to work with. Two blocks away that is not the case. All of the property HERE is ready and willing to listen to a new plan for how Vienna should look in the future. Town Green? Yeah, right. Maud Robinson could care less about GREEN anything. She likes black asphalt and we got plenty of her handiwork for proof as far as you can see!

Mother Maud Lost in the 1950s Comments (17)

Maud Robinson recently told the owners of the Marco Polo restaurant in Vienna that if they wanted to redevelop that she would support the idea of a new one story building whereby people could drive up to the front door and park right there - like so many of the antiquated and poorly planned buildings dotting Maple Avenue already. This woman is not living in the real world with the rest of us. She is nuts. What's amazing is that she wants to relive her youth, purports to be Mrs. Historic (a complete farce), but is actively working to make sure the Vienna Inn is leveled.

Peek A Boo I See You! Jane Seeman Goes Preschool Comments (0)

This post is troubling. Can anyone imagine Tom Davis or Gerry Connelly doing this at the same event (they were there)? Why should the citizens of Vienna put up with such an embarrassment?

Vienna is a Town. It is not a playground. It is not preschool Mrs. Seeman. Your inability to handle yourself at a public event is pathetic. Your inability to smile and wave to a camera is pathetic. You are a big girl now Jane, right? You are expected to show the people of Vienna the decision-making ability of an adult, not a petulant child. What goes on in your mind? You see a camera and think "quick hide"?

What is even more troubling is that the same decision-making you used to hide from a camera is the same decision-making you use DAILY as the Mayor of Vienna. Clearly, it is time for you to move on to greener pastures.

Laine Hyde's Companion Walter Basnight Attacks Cameraman Comments (9)

While Congressman Tom Davis and Fairfax County Chairman Gerry Connelly were in the house, Laine Hyde's companion attacked a cameraman at the The Vienna-Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce Casino Night on Saturday night. Hyde's beau was the only person in the building launching attacks, everyone else wanted to pose for the camera!

What do we mean attacked? Walter Basnight (listed as a citizen member on the Chamber web site) put his hands on the cameraman (and attempted to break the camera) and then attempted to push him to the floor. It was bizarre. Witnesses were aghast.

Laine Hyde is of course the head of the Town sponsored sham operation Historic Vienna, Inc. and sits on the Town of Vienna Commercial Architectural Review Board. Does this woman really need to be involved in Vienna government? Is this the best we can do?

Mayor Jane Seeman Hides From the Camera; Is This Normal Behavior for a Public Official? Comments (8)

The Vienna-Tysons Regional Chamber of Commerce held their VERY PUBLIC Fourteenth Annual Casino Night & Taste of the Town Saturday night at the Westwood Country Club. Hundreds attended. All the local politicians were there schmoozing along with the likes of Congressman Tom Davis. Photographers were all around. Everyone was enjoying themselves.

That said, this is Vienna and things tend to get weird. In between the Mayor of Vienna hiding from the camera and Laine Hyde's companion going after a photographer, you start to wonder about the mental makeup of some of the people in charge of Vienna.

Sagres Construction Connection to Vienna? Comments (1)

At a post recently a resident of Vienna passed along some hieroglyphics:

Stop defending the historic district and start defending our tax dollars! Get Sagres Construction to replace all of the concrete they have installed that is cracking up all over the place... quit hiring those clowns... just who's cousin runs that company, anyway?

Can someone fill us in about the "cousin" mentioned above? We do not know who this is.

Sewage Wins! Comments (3)

From the Vienna Town Council 06/19/2006 Agenda:

12. Authorization for the emergency purchase of two (2) sewer ejector pumps from gunnell & sons, inc. In an estimated amount of $20,475.00 For the police station, and authorization to expend approved fiscal year 2005-2006 budgeted funds.

We spend $20,000 to push the poop up from the basement of the current Police Station, but we spend only $10,000 to study the entire corridor of Maple Avenue for a makeover? We are sure there was a plumbing emergency that required the the pumps in the Police Station, no problem there.

However, for the expenditure of pumps to dwarf the entire planning/expenditure process for all of our commercial district on Maple Avenue, is asinine. It shows 100% incompetence on the part of Jane Seeman and Maud Robinson.
