Herndon Community Television
Why does Vienna not have this? The moment Vienna goes on TV Jane, George and Maud go by the way of the dinosaur. The first moment they belittle or attack a citizen on cable TV is the moment they are cooked. Oh we forgot, Falls Church too. Reston, yup them too.

"Keeping the Community Connected"
That is Herndon's motto. Can you imagine Maud, Jane, George or Laine putting forth that? It would be fun to watch the town council meetings on live tv with them all holding paper up in front of their faces.
$8.5M for the Town Green - think there would be one penny left for a station? Yeah, right after sidewalks in NW.
We need to put together a group of community volunteers to go forward with this.

HV, Why, oh, why are you clamoring for video of these meetings? Your viewers won't have anything to look forward to on this site. The serious posts, notwithstanding, we enjoy the extra stuff that makes the cut if for any other reason as to get a real good belly laugh along with the morning news.

Some of these communities also film their sports. Wouldn't it be great to have some of these HS sports broadcast for parents/grandparents Maud?

"Divide and Conquer" is Vienna's current motto.

Catch 22:
I'm all for broadcasting of all hearing and meetings. I think that is good government. On this I agree 100% with HV.

Frank, try and bring it up with Maud or Jane and see what happens. Then you might understand what HV is talking about.

One thing you HV.com folks don't seem to realize is that the cameras broadcasting town council meetings would show you in action in addition to showing the town council. They may hide behind paper sometimes, but you hide to a much greater extent behind your camera and behind your anonymous web site. Your cherished anonymity would be instantly eliminated by televised town meetings. I think this would be a good thing, because it would rein in extreme behavior both by the town officials and by people like you.
If you are so interested in exposing the true workings of the town council, why don't you ever alert the townspeople to your upcoming appearances before the council? Don't you want the town to see you in action? You seem to prefer to wait until afterwards and then selectively report whatever makes you look good and the town look bad, instead of the totality of the interactions. For example, the annotated minutes for the March 19 meeting say that the council approved the fence in question. Why didn't you share news of your victory with the people of Vienna? Why not tell us who voted for and against it?
So to summarize, broadcasting of meetings = good. Selective reporting = bad. And since you wanted my opinion, the police FOIA situation sounds awful.

"Moron" there was no victory. If you had bothered to investigate you would have realized that the Town mandated that the fence in question be a "natural" color, but then after it was approved stated that it could now be painted any color. Now that it is truly moronic. The Town is facing multiple lawsuits over their historic district and you are paying for it with tax money.
On top of that you have Town Council members like Cole in bed with developers, others lying in public and then their own Police force has to use State law to gain documents, and the only thing you are worried about is an anonymous website? Interesting shoot the messenger theory.

Visionary hit the nail on the head. Broadcasting town meetings would perhaps temper both sides but I would not bet on it.
BTW Visionary: What's your name?

If everyone wants the meetings taped, how come only one person in town is doing it? Nothing stopping anyone else from grabbing a camera and marching down to the next council meeting or work session.
Whether you agree or not, the more important part of the tapes ARE how the politicians respond to the public. While the public should act respectful, the politicians MUST be fair and equal to their constituents. That is why they are our elected officials (though I technically have never voted for most of them). To see these town officials acting arrogantly and, at times, overtly hostile is embarrassing.
Let's clean house and stop all this nonsense. The decision is ours and I will be truly disappointed in the voters this spring if they don't get rid of Maud at the very least.

I doubt that HV would even need to exist if these meetings were taped. I think visionary you have missed the real point and that is they are afraid of the camera. Don't you think it is a bit strange that our meetings are not televised? Try and ask yourself why. We will be waiting to see what you come up with as a rational. camera=light=knowledge=trouble for TC

It is apparent that with the 7-0 council vote there will be no televising of town meetings. That balance has to change from seven for to seven against or some logical voting pattern. The practice of councilmen changing their opposing vote to have, for the record, a solidarity vote of 7 to 0 must end.

one could call that collusion?
