Maud Plays Hide and Go Seek Too
Hiding from the camera is a relatively new trick in Vienna politics. First, it was Laine Hyde. Then Jane Seeman. Now, tonight Maud Robinson has started "hiding". That's not just Maud holding up a picture, that's a nutty politician talking behind a piece of paper and waving her finger. Washington Post reporters are you watching one of the craziest political scenes imaginable in one of the country's wealthiest counties? You know what would also be instructive for Vienna residents? Have Maud and Jane sit through a polygraph.

Maud's Vision of Vienna Town Council Harmony

Comments
What I think is reprehensible is the length Jane Seeman, Maud Robinson, and George Lovelace will go in their efforts to fight the homeowners in our neighborhood. Their arrogance is costing this town time and money that should be spent on important matters in this town. It's no wonder they don't want their meetings video-taped and broadcast like other governments in Virginia. They don't want the TOV residents to see who they voted into office and their inane and arrogant stances they take when dealing with ordinary citizens in this town. While we have very important issues facing this town, Maud would rather argue whether a fence is covered with natural stain or whether it be allowed to be painted to look like it has a natural wood stain. Why is this important to you Maud? Nowhere in the Vienna Code does it ask this? Why waste our money?
Jane would rather argue that you must only put up a natural wood fence, then the day after the fence is built, why, hell, you can paint it any color you want, and the TOV cannot stop you. Well, Jane, why then do you waste our time with a 30 minute dog and pony show bickering with town residents, adamantly taking a stand that you know won't hold up in court. Are you doing this because you're mad about the peekaboo pictures? Are you just so angry?
Jane was so mad, she wouldn't even address the questions put to her by an ordinary citizen who was forced to come before her, simply because the TC refused to do what was right, and allow for all homeowners along Windover to put up a fence like anyone else in the town of Vienna. Even Mr. Hembree stated that Vienna's code did not support this level of scrutiny, but did Maud or Jane listen to their own expert? Hell, no!
It was a sorry sight to witness, especially in front of our very own Peter James of VPC, who I observed, was puzzled to see that our town leaders unable to behave in a professional manner.
Well, Jane and Maud, it was painfully obvious to this member of the audience that you both have a ax to grind, and this is not what we should be seeing in our elected officials. It's petty.
Then comes Gorge Lovelace, who really puts his shoe in his mouth, as always. George. Sit back and listen to yourself once, and you might realize that your motives here aren't as pure as you might think.
That goes for the whole lot of you. Your hatred and utter contempt for Vienna citizens you don't happen to like or agree with has shown that you are all very immature and mean spirited people, and are incapable of governing this town in any degree of professionalism. If you are angry over this website, then start acting like you are grown up, and not like little babies who always have to get your way. But, it appears that your arrogance and inability to get along with Vienna citizens who come before you with legal issues that challenge your small minded ways, have clouded your minds.
It was painfully obvious to anyone present last night that your hatred and hostility have overcome any sense of impartiality everyone of you should have as an elected official in any government, small or large.
Vienna town government cannot survive with this type of behavior, and ultimately the voters will learn and realize how wrong their choices were when they voted you all in.
Finally, you should realize that if this site is upsetting to you, it's due to the fact that you refuse to broadcast your meetings, and the only way the TOV residents are going to get any real picture of your behavior is this site. The fluff writers that work for the Real Estate guise papers: Connection, Times, etc. won't ever bite the hand that feeds them, so this is the only place where people can get the real scoop in town.

The good news is that you found Jane hiding with Maud! Hey Maud, your pathetic Christmas tree in the middle of the intersection at Church and Mill Streets has been in violation of Town Code for years now. That industrial intersection is heavily traveled by commuters, W&OD trail users, and heavy trucks zooming all day down Mill Street to their warehouse businesses and the Town's own Northside property yard. Every time I have to carefully nose my car out past that damn tree to be sure no cross-traffic is in the blind spot and to guess who goes next, I think of your silly ass newsletter scolding residents to cut back trees and bushes to no more than 4 feet high within 30 feet of an intersection... and then I realize what scofflaw hypocrites we have in our Town government. Remove that tree today before someone else gets killed on Mill Street, Maud, you are in violation of our LAW!

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the public displays of idiocy by Maud, Laine and Jane.
The comic material in Vienna is just too rich. This is seriously Nutsoville and they are the queens of the castle. I mean this is crazier than a sketch on Dave Chappelle or SNL.

It's unbelievable that they would bicker over a friggin' fence like that when we have WAY more important issues that need to be resolved in Vienna -- traffic, taxes, crime -- h-e-l-l-o?!
This isn't a garden club - this is a town that needs to be managed properly.
As Ann Lander's used to say, "Wake up and smell the coffee!" These folks have got to go!

Video to follow. Wait till you see the arrogance displayed by one George Lovelace. On top of not being with "it", he is downright dishonest. It is sad.

To be fair these images appear to show Ms. Robinson merely holding up a picture during some type of discussion. It looks to be more of a bad camera angle than 'hiding.' I'm only basing this on the still images. Perhaps your video is more telling and she is clearly blocking your video of her.
Likewise, the mayor only hid from view from you or one of your cronies in an informal gathering, not in a public hearing. That is a big difference IMHO. If the mayor didn’t hide from you at that event wouldn’t you have been gripping about how she was seen in public gambling money along side of a major Vienna developer? You would have simply created another issue to spin.

Hmm. She is hiding. She is gambling. She is sitting next to a developer. She is at a very public event that includes Tom Davis and Gerry Connelly. Do you have a theory why she hid? Do you wonder about her competence and decision making? Can you explain the big difference about a public event v. a Town Council meeting for a politician?

To be fair.... Fences do not usually wear dresses. Especially a dress that clashes with that chair! And puh-leazz... That pendant is SO 1930!

I have been at scores of white tie events and I cannot ever, and I mean, EVER, remember seeing any politician, movie star, or VIP, shy away from a camera. Why you think you can rationalize these pathetic politicians' behavior as being acceptable simply because they are afraid of having their pictures taken is hogwash. THERE WOULD NOT BE ANY STORY if they just looked up and smiled like Congressman Davis, several other of the Vienna Council, who by the way, did not shy away from the Camera. All that said, if someone is that angry to be photographed by what they think is a paparazzi, they are too damned arrogant for Vienna!
I think Seeman is just a mediocre town mommy who was elected to a town position when no-one gave a hoot, and now when voters are beginning to see the nepotism, corruption, and arrogance of trying to hold on to a sinking ship, her supporters will strike at anything to legitimize her.
This will NOT be the way Vienna functions in the future. We all deserve better, our children deserve more, our Police deserve more, and our businesses deserve more than some old outdated New England transplant named Maud and her sidekick Jane.

HV - I do not have theory as to "why she hid", but I do have a fact. Mayor Seeman had cataract surgery on her right eye 8 days previous to the Casino Night event. Likely the flash from the camera was irritating, if not even dangerous for her healing. I would suspect that her opthmologist would have advised her to care for the eye by avoiding flash photography and bright lights.
In this case, I cannot agree that she was "hiding." She was merely protecting her vision, and for that, she merits no attack from you or anyone else.

Seeman was at a Council meeting on February 12, 2007 clearly with evidence of surgery. She participated in that meeting wearing no protective eye gear, in the full view of flash cameras, video cameras and very bright artificial light in the Town Council Chamber. The Casino night you refer to was on March 3, 2007. Where did 8 days come from? Do you have experience in these surgeries to make these claims? Did you talk to Seeman about this?
Deborah B you may want to consider how accurate your claims are. We wonder if maybe Seeman had a problem with her larynx that forced her to lie here. What do you think?
Posted by: Historic Vienna | March 22, 2007 10:53 PM
OK, Deborah, how come the mayor did not say "Please withhold from using flash - I just had eye surgery."? Did either of the two people sitting next to her at casino night say anything about this recent eye surgery?

Come on now. Everyone knows why these folks continue to hide - because they know you are taking the pics and certainly know where those pics will end up - on this site as banners or with circles around their lips, thought balloons, etc. I'd hide too.

...are elected public officials embarrassing themselves in public. Where are all the other Federal, State and Local politicians using this tactic in the area? Is the camera some kind of "new" invention to Vienna leaders? Perhaps if in the last few years these people had not tried to ban the video taping of their meetings, forced undue FOIA requests on anyone and everyone including their own Police Department, if they had not openly lied at Council sessions...then perhaps in the abstract the notion of hiding from cameras would be justifiable by public officials in Vienna. NOT.
