Maud Robinson's Asphalt Wonderland; After 50 Years of Her Hard Work, We Have Parking Lots!
Maud Robinson lives in the fantasy world that the new Town Green is the center of Vienna for a redevelopment of Vienna. Clearly, it is not. It is landlocked with limited roads and limited land to work with. Two blocks away that is not the case. All of the property HERE is ready and willing to listen to a new plan for how Vienna should look in the future. Town Green? Yeah, right. Maud Robinson could care less about GREEN anything. She likes black asphalt and we got plenty of her handiwork for proof as far as you can see!

Holy parking lots, Batman!
Seriously, all I see is asphalt. There has got to be a way to lower the parking lots, raise the roofs & add some green.

Does she have stock in asphalt too? Banks and asphalt. What a true visionary!

Don't forget the asphalt walks and the asphalt patches the Town allows utilities to surround their service boxes in existing concrete walks.
Can we talk sidewalks? How much you wanna bet the new walks on Center Street will not connect to anything at either end?

You are right - the sidewalks on Center probably won't turn the corner and go up Battle & Spring.
The asphalt walks in the NW quadrant (specifically on Lewis) are horrible.

Another reason for taping and broadcasting the meetings on TV:
Maud actually said she didn't want to "spend more money on concrete sidewalks around the neighborhoods on account that is costs too much and therefore we should have asphalt paths instead."
Where does this nincompoop think we live?... in some podunk little town in New England? I am serious, we need to get rid of her and her birdbrain ideas and get someone elected who will actually spend OUR TAX MONEY on something that benefits US and our children. I think it is utterly despicable when our children cannot even walk 2-3 blocks to school because there are NO sidewalks.
What a disgrace. She does, though, have no unwillingness to waste $8,000,000 dollars on her new TOWN GREEN with all its concrete, and did you notice the nice concrete sidewalk she put in to connect it to her old clubhouse, the Freeman Clubhouse Store?
She's a disgrace. I wished everyone could have heard her. We need to push for video and broadcasting of all the meetings!

HEY! HOW ABOUT CENTER ST IN THE NORTH PART OF TOWN FROM CHURCH ST NORTH. ALL WE HAVE IS SEVERAL BLOCKS OF DITCHES (DEEP ONES TOO). WELL, I GUESS AFTER SPENDING 7 MIL OR SO ON MAUDE'S "TOWN GREEN" (RHYMES WITH PIPEDREAMS) THERE'S NOT MUCH LEFT FOR SUCH BASIC STRUCTURES LIKE GUTTERS, SIDEWALKS, ETC.

That concrete sidewalk will be covered with brick. I wonder why they didn't spec asphalt!

Considering the basic infrastructure needs not met in Vienna, those (2) PDFs are amazing. Wow.

Indeed... no expense spared for the club house party lawn. They probably did not hire cheapo Sagres either to do the work. "One for you, two for me... one for you, two for me...".
I wonder who is going to get access to our public stage... our mini-Wolftrap? Is it going to be all blue grass, church choirs, and VPC weddings; or can we book some decent bands that young people will flock to see? Who is going to manage crowds? Who is going to close the lawn when it rains? Who is going to pay for all of this? Who is making up the rules? Historic Vienna? Friends of Who? It's garden club government run-a-muck! Would these people be doing this if they didn't have their hands on our tax dollars? I don't think so.
Who is Elizabeth Ann Seton and why is the Town naming a stage after her?

I find this interesting considering Maud refused to accept a "donated" bike stand. I demand to know how much I'm spending on these bike stands. These are rather unattractive, too.

A look at what Maud deemed not worthy of her "town green."

Vienna mommy I do not understand why Maud did not accept a donation. I saw on the bike path benches with names on them?

The reasons varied from too tall to not needed. Ultimately, Maud is a control freak and her town green was going to be exactly as she dictates. She doesn't want no stinkin' freebies.

Dave Marsden's memorial bike rack may have been declined because it is modern, organic, and not suitable to garden club history.
Who is Elizabeth Ann Seton and why is the Town naming a stage after her? Is this the same Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton?

It sounds more Church related than Town related..or are they the same thing now?

Town Green
The bronze marker is at the entry to the green, not the stage as I read the material board. While I could be wrong, I suspect the marker shown in the board is an example of the type of marker that will go there, not the actual marker. I doubt they would be naming the green after a Catholic saint. When you zoom in it says something about 'Board of Trustees.' Unless something has changed there are no Trustees for the town green, all jokes aside.

I guess the marker will read:
*** THE HONORABLE MAUD ROBINSON TOWN GREEN BATHHOUSE AND MEETING PLACE ***
SECOND LINE:
*** HERE LIES THE GREATEST WASTE AND FLEECING OF VIENNA'S CITIZENRY IN MODERN HISTORY ***
I WILL DONATE THE BRONZE MARKER MYSELF, HELL, GOLD, IF THEY PRINT THAT ON THE MARKER... ;)
BUT I SUSPECT THE VPC CROWD WON'T GO FOR IT.

But we can't have a bike rack donated by a woman who lost her husband on that site? I think that her generosity to this Town was amazing and so unduly dismissed. For Shame.

On a recent visit to the Vienna Dog Park I witnessed a man wildly running around yelling "asphalt". I thought Oh no! He wants to pave over the dog park.
Fortunately that was not the case. His obstinate dog was named Asphalt.
