"Would You Like Heroin or Crack with Your Continental Breakfast?"

A Safe Family Fun Get Away Sponsored by Mother Maud!

From the papers:

During a traffic stop, David Andre Byrd, 36, no fixed address, was charged with unauthorized use of the SUV he was driving and driving without a license. The owner of the vehicle, Rafeal Dermundo Graves, 47, 9302 Brandon St., Manassas Park, was located at the Wolf Trap Motel, 430 Maple Ave., W. Graves and another occupant of the room, Kenyetta Lakeisha Basil, 22, 1320 Madison St., N.W., Washington, DC, were charged with possession of heroin and possession of cocaine. Basil was also charged with possession of marijuana.

So while Maud is getting rich, who is minding the store? Why have we let Maud cut the Police budget? Is there a reason Vienna has an Alexandria like Route 1 motel that the average person would be scared to step foot in? Does anyone know if this place has the beds you can put a quarter in?

Comments

Maud Robinson is proud of Vienna's one and only motel which she pushed to have constructed, which she pushed to be painted that awful "brown"...which now attracts guests with "no fixed address". Isn't that special.

Is anyone else as concerned as I am that are three elementary schools and 1 high school within walking distance of this druggie motel? Any chance that there are child molesters there, too?

All of Maud's sidewalks lead you there. That is a town eyesore/criminal hangout and we should all join forces to run it out of town.

Maud has pushed for a very narrow focus for the Maple Avenue Vision. She wants to concentrate redevelopment to the area around the Vienna Inn and Town Green. Maud will not look at the Maple Avenue corridor as a whole. This approach will ensure that the Wolf Trap Motel and its various guests will remain in for years to come.

If that motel site were anywhere but within the town of Vienna, under the jurisdiction of crazy people, it would have been redeveloped years ago.

Things can't be that bad in Vienna...

Our commercial district in Vienna is thriving and keeping up with the large increases in land/tax productions when compared to our residential increases.

Our elderly population is not being driven out of Vienna because of skyrocketing tax assessments.

Even though it can be shown that mixed use code changes will allow for an increase of about 40-50% in commercial tax collections and then allow for a decrease in our tax burden on our residents, Vienna will lose its small town feel and look more like Reston.

Under the current regime, all homeowners are allowed to have the same deals without any fear that special favors and back room deals are made in return to keep the current lot of council persons in power.

If you believe any of the above, you need to go home and look deeper into what is happening here in Vienna.

Our commercial district in Vienna is not thriving and keeping up with the large increases in land/tax productions when compared to our residential increases. In fact, under the current regime, we have seen our commercial tax basis dwindle by about 20% and we have seen in increase of the lost revenues to pay for our town and salaries from the residents from 70% to now 80% and the way it is looking, soon residents will be paying almost 80-90% of the tax burden, and in towns like Falls Church, old town Alexandria, and Old Town Manassas, the rate residents pay is closer to 50-60%.

Our elderly population is being driven out of Vienna because of skyrocketing tax assessments, again, due to the fact that our current elected officials are not concerned with this at all. None of them have fixed incomes, and all make more than enough to afford even an increase of 10-15% in their taxes, our elderly cannot.

Even though it can be shown that mixed use code changes will allow for an increase of about 40-50% in commercial tax collections and then allow for a decrease in our tax burden on our residents, Vienna will not lose its small town feel and will not look look more like Reston. If fact, if you look at the newer buildings along Church street, those building could today be changed without switching a brick to be utilized by mixed use code, and thereby allowing for the same "business foot-print" to bring in 2-3 times in tax revenues to pay for our town's needs and salaries.

Under the current zoning laws, it is really not quite simple for commercial owners to rebuild on their lots and bring in more ma and pa stores, to help produce more tax revenues to revitalize the business sectors in Vienna. Over the last 5 years, we have seen a 35% decrease in these quaint stores and these are being replaced by more banks and gas stations, simply because small business owners cannot compete with the extremely high costs of improvements that large corporate businesses like banks and oil companies have.

Under the current regime, all homeowners are not allowed to have the same deals without any fear that special favors and back room deals are made in return to keep the current lot of council persons in power. Why don't you think they refuse to bring Video into their meetings? Why does Bukont get to build a apartment/condominium complex that is clearly 4 floors when everyone else gets only 3?

Vienna, this is the wrong direction for town politics to go. We deserve better, and we can do something, and that is to get out and vote the incumbents out of office.

We pay for 28% of taxes in Vienna and you residents pay 72%. That sounds like we're thriving and healthy, eh?! I know for fact all the moms in town shop at Target, Costco or Tyson's Mall. Looks like Fairfax County is reaping all the benefits in this area.

Go by this motel on a Sunday morning. Can anyone explain why women in short skirts and high heels are always seen in the parking lots?

Yes, no one will do drugs or have affairs in a new hotel. We must shut it down because ALL patrons there are druggies, [gang] members and prostitutes.

Wolftrappe Motel = is Vienna's East LA.

EVS, come on. This is a flop motel and you know it. Its not a Hilton, Hyatt or even a Best Western. Why are you defending this place? Are you really satisfied that this place is the best we can do? Have you ever stayed there? Have you ever talked to the Vienna Police about this place?

>>EVS, come on.

Agreed. I see no need to rail against a post that can't stand on its own.

I live pretty close to this motel and must be really clueless. I don't doubt that it's an old place or that there may be some illegal activities going on there, but I sincerely haven't heard a siren or seen any of the trouble that's been reported. Heck, 20+ years ago when I was in high school, kids used to have parties (and do other things) in that place.

I just don't think it's as bad as you claim. The only ruckus I hear from that place is due to the annual "rolling thunder" contingent that stays there on Memorial Day weekend.

There are a ton of run down or older commercial bldgs in Vienna. The motel is an easy target for throwing out scary claims like it's a [gang] hang out and is full of prostitutes and go through the (tired old) link to Maud and the whole blame game thing.

EVS, have you ever stayed there? Have you ever talked to the Vienna Police about this place?

Okay, I give. It's a dive and has been for 20 years. We can do better.

I live in town so haven't had a need to stay there. I haven't talked to the police about that place because I truly & personally, haven't had any problems with it or it's patrons. I have talked to them about the apartment complex close-by as that's where I've had some issues.

Okay, so it ain't the Hilton. I've stayed in some Motel 6's & Days Inns on I-95 that were around the same caliber as this motel, so does that count?

Let's not play games. I simply think you're exaggerating a bit. You're trying to hold this out as an example and blame Maud & crew for this and all urban blight in Town, right?

Fire it up! You've gotten kinda soft lately. I would've thought by now that you would've posted something funny like, "Maud supports flop-houses" or "Maud loves [gangs]" or "Hookers are voting for George".

EVS, now that you bring up [gangs], Maud believes that they don't exist in Vienna.

I guess you and Maud don't count the daytime home invasion robberies, property thefts, armed robberies at Mike's Warehouse, or drug dealing up at the Cedar Park Apartments and shopping center. And that "fancy" graffiti that's being sprayed on buildings and signs all over town -- that's not gang tagging, either.

And I don't know where you live in Vienna, but there are quite a few houses in the Vienna Woods area that are being rented out to large groups of unrelated people -- so yeah, we've got some flop houses going on here.

With you and Maud denying that this is going on, pretty soon it'll be in every Vienna neighborhood. ENJOY.

Patrick St.,

Read my post again, I said, "don't doubt that...there may be some illegal activities going on there." So, I'm not denying anything and thanks for the standard response of lumping me in with Maud and her group cuz' I stated that some are exaggerating about the motel.

In terms of all the invasions and crimes you talk about, I've never seen any of that in the crime reports in the paper. So I'm not denying those haven't happened either, just never read about them or saw the tagging (and what is Mike's whse)?

I'm am really worried with the druggie, prostitute infested motel and all the perverts in the bathrooms in the new Town Green, NW Vienna may become as dangerous as your side of town.

Isn"t the issue being expressed toward the Vienna Hotel the fact that it is not being upgraded because of the antiquated zoning laws? Talk all you want but that is the fact. Now isn't it true that the Town does not want to change the height limits but probably will allow 4 stories? Now isn't it true that Richmond recently passed a bill that requires affordable housing in any building over 4 stories?

$72/night and free HBO.

What more could anyone want?

Maud & Jane - we welcome your patronage!

EVS,

Lets hold the 25 year reunion at Wolftrappe. We'll bring the party favors.

For EVS and everyone else:
Not all Vienna crime is reported on the Town Web site. Plus, they don't keep an archive of what they do report, so residents can't keep a running tally.

However, some of us do check the Town Crime page and save the info. Here's what was written on the Town Web site last November:

Burglary
800 block DeSale St., S.W.
4:06 p.m. November 11
Police responded to a house for a report of a burglary. Additionally, police responded to reports of gunshots heard in the neighborhood at the same time. It was determined that a resident of the house fired at least one shot at an individual during this event. At the time of this report, it is not believed anyone was struck by the gunfire; however, detectives are seeking to identify and determine the welfare of a Hispanic male, 20-25 years old, 5'8" tall, medium build, wearing a white collared long-sleeve shirt and dark pants who was seen fleeing the area. Anyone who witnessed this event and has not already been interviewed by a detective is encouraged to contact the Vienna police. Questions or concerns may be directed to Lt. Russ Marsh at 703-255-6398.

Much of the crime that happens in Vienn isn't reported in the local papers. I often find out more information reading the larger newspapers. You can also search the Web and get the info, if you wanted it.

PSR,

Gee, how original, lumping me in with Maud. If you read my previous post, I did not deny anything. I simply stated that I think things were being exaggerated.

Gang activity exists in NOVA. The County has recognized that fact. I think we all need to recognize that. I haven't heard of or read in the local crime reports any of the home invasions and other criminal activities you've mentioned. Maybe SW Vienna and the various civic associations need to take some steps to address these problems.

Using the motel logic, we should add Cedar Park Apts. & Shopping Center and Vienna Woods to the tear down list.

So, from what I've learned on this site, we'll have to step up our own Neighborhood Watch with all the motel druggies, gangs, prostitutes and perverts that will be hanging out in the Town Green bathrooms and NW Vienna streets. It's all Maud's fault - she supported the Cedar Park Apartments in 1962.

>>Go by this motel on a Sunday morning. Can anyone explain why women in short skirts and high heels are always seen in the parking lots?

Because they are all getting ready to go to church in the Sunday best? ;-)

I will pay for EVS's room and throw in $100 extra if she is willing to spend a night there.

EVS, your posts are silly and facetious. It appears that your agenda is to discount residents' concerns, and try to bully folks into your way of thinking. You sure sound a lot like Maud to me.

Interesting how it's happening everywhere. Remember Earth and Fire Gallery. She moved from Town of Herndon to Town of Vienna to Leesburg. Read her latest newsletter...
