The New Town Green Has No Fence; Why?
Please walk down and see the new Town Green. Look at where the tiny grassy area is located. Now imagine sitting there with a three year old child. Now imagine that three year old darts from your side - something EVERY three year old does. Now look where Maple Avenue is 35 feet away with no fence there to stop a child from being run over. While this may seem like a small issue to Maud and the rest of "the out of touch with reality set", it is representative of the SLOPPY and UNPLANNED way this Town operates. We can't keep being STUPID. We now have a $10 million dollar "park" that NO mother in Vienna will EVER take a child to unless that child is on a leash!

Vienna Will Soon Offer Discounts on Child Leashes!

The Town Brown doesn't appear to be designed for children. Keep them at home where they belong! This space is for Maude and her supporters to bask in their glory and admire all that she's done for the town over the last 50 years.

The Vienna Park and Rec catalo has a very green picture of the Town Green. I would venture to say than in twenty five years it will not look as depicted on the catalog. Reading about the activities that will be held there for children in June and July I see nothing that cannot be held safely at Gllydon Park where there already is a stage.

I am glad you found a harness. They used to put a collar on my neck for my leash.

A suggestion for Vienna's new leaders. Give up the historic nonsense... it's a poor excuse for not moving forward. Evict the squatters, Historic Vienna, Inc., with their fund-raising used books, jams, jellies, and penny candy... and convert the Freeman Store and Town Green into The Vienna Station, a fine pub restaurant (facing east, south, and west) with outdoor dining and a generously landscaped wine and beer garden with provision for live entertainment... all accessible to pedestrians and trail users. Establish parking toward the Vienna Inn (which will naturally go out of business) that will be accessible by walking under the new W&OD bridge over Maple. Lease the complex to private proprietors. Then get ready to plan and control the redevelopment of Church and Mill Streets.
Town residents will be able to walk into town and wine and dine at The Station!

Hear, Hear!
That's a great idea, really one of the best things I have heard on this site.

We could have one heck-of-a pub/restaurant in the Freeman Store building.
I remember places like that in old town section of Baltimore, Alexandria, Manassas, Clifton (Heart and Hand) etc. Town Green: we need to all get together and make sure this gets done!
Instead of us paying taxes to the tune of almost a million a year to keep the Freeman store Garden Club fopen, we could actually do something that makes the town happier and actually saving this money to boot!
We could also supply the Vienna Tavern/Station with Vienna Cable access so while we are enjoying a cold beer/ale with a great meal, we could be watching the latest little league or high school ball game. Wow, wouldn't that bring more Vienna citizens together! The freeman store seems as of now only to be the delight of:
Officers of Historic Vienna, Inc.
President - Laine Hyde
Vice President - Shirley McCoy
Treasurer - D. H. Scarborough
Secretary - Anne Stuntz
Board Members of Historic Vienna, Inc.
Sarah Jane Brady
Michael Cheselka
Daniel Dellinger
Mildred Monahan
Rose Mulville
Maud Robinson
Sandra Stadelman
Daphne Sloan
Paul Snodgrass
Katherine Tugendhat
These people don't know what Vienna could be like to the enjoyment of all age groups.

Drove by Town Green and noticed large flower pots on the sidewalk next to the traffic on Maple Ave. I could only envision the child that got away from the parent is now out of view because he is playing hide-and-seek behind the flower pot. Someone doesn't realize that it is "jersy barriers" and not flower pots that are needed there.
