The Freeman Store's No Pictures Policy

The recent no pictures flap at the Freeman Store was taped. Listen to the action (about 4 minutes).

Who is "Mr. Helper"? Mr. Helper is some random guy who injected himself into this debate. He is the soft spoken one in the conversation. The German sounding woman is the Freeman Store attendant.

That was fun! I like how he was trying to educate you on Vienna addresses. I was unaware that I could have a Vienna address and live OUTSIDE of the town's limits. Fascinating.

Just in case there are any doubts about who owns the Freeman House - it IS the Town of Vienna. Bought in 1969:

PARID: 0382 02 0104
VIENNA TOWN OF
131 CHURCH ST NE

Speaking of TOV real estate, I noticed that the Town Green was assessed at $4,342,330 in 2006. If that was the true market value, the total cost of the Town Green (opportunity cost) exceeded $6 million. This is approaching $400 for every man, woman and child in TOV. Is it really worth that much to see movies and concerts at the Town Green instead of Glyndon Park or Nottaway Park?

EXACTLY!

What a laugh, his retort to your question over ownership of the Freeman Store is to ask you about the Civil War history of the Store... what a laugh. Hey, I have found civil war bullets, buckles and other relics in my yard, maybe my home was used to house, feed, or care for the wounded soldiers... I guess I can right a book and say it was the case, and everybody would believe my house was historic!

What a laugh.

From their website:

It is our policy that those wanting to take videos or pictures obtain permission in advance. This is so that those visiting the museum or shopping will not be interrupted.

That's lame! So, I guess if you are touring the store by yourself, you'll get permission to take pictures. They must have quite a problem with the paparazzo to have to come up with a 'by permission only' policy. I wonder why the store clerk couldn't explain their policy and offer permission once no one would be interrupted... just knew how to call the police per poly-{...] orders. What a bunch of childishness! Time to elect adults... vote, Vienna!

That "policy" is less than a year old...as we have copies of that silly website. So someone takes a picture, old people and historic losers burp and cry and out comes a new "policy"?

The Town subsidizes the Historic Vienna, Inc. historical society at tax payer expense. They sell stuff and raise money on Town property. Shouldn't they be required to disclose an annual financial statement? How much money do they raise and who gets it for what purpose? Full disclosure or fly solo, garden clubbers! Historic Vienna, Inc. could not exist without Vienna residents paying their expenses and yet they have the gall to prohibit photos of their fund raising operation. Vienna needs to clean house and get rid of the garden clubbers who take our money and spend it on their hobbies... VOTE, Vienna!
