Shell Station at Glyndon and Maple Goes Poof; What's Next?

The Shell gas station at Glyndon and Maple Avenue is now gone. What comes next Maud? We are sure you are reaching into your bag of tricks master plan for answers. Another prime spot in Vienna and we are all left to guess and hope what might come next. What an economic development system from Gomer and Goober!

"Maud, what are our choices behind the 3 doors?"

Hey 'EVS' and 'Neighbor' I hope we get another bank, don't you!? Won't that be great? Your right we are crazy to want things to change. We will all just go away so your wise TC can continue to abuse citizens and ruin the commercial corridor. Go spend the night at the Wolftrap Motel while you are at it!

I get accused of just being another Klingon who agrees with anything & everything on HV.com but I really do almost zero shopping in the town.

Outside of Magruders, Connell's & Rexall, all of my shopping is at the mall, online, Target & Costco (primarily the last two). Since our family has 5 members, that is a lot of spending NOT in town that could promote town businesses. Unfortunately, a combination of money & selection of goods, keeps me going elsewhere. If you did put a "urban" Target or a Trader Joe's in Vienna, what a HUGE tax revenue that would be. I'm not promoting tons of big boxes but one would provide a nice surge in b-pole taxes. The 4000 single family homes really do bear the burden of the town & it's getting taxing (sorry for the pun).

I have dreams about Safeway becoming a Target but that is what us "useless/unproductive" stay-at-home moms think about.

the church parking lot was probably the #1 best site in town for a 3 story urban-style retail building that could set the tone for a Maple Ave renaissance. A good town government would have worked with the church to get such a building with integral/underground parking that could serve the church on Sundays & shoppers the rest of the time. Instead we got a surface parking lot. talk about setting the tone! The Safeway is about the right size to become a Trader Joe's. it's way too small to become a big box store. I'm not sure what Target's model is for their urban stores, but I doubt if this would work for them. But don't count on any such change here. First, it's up to the owner of the property to do with it what it wants. So far, it seems to be content with the Safeway. Also, a good local government would be out there negotiating with appropriate businesses to come into the town. can you imagine THIS town council doing such work?

Boy Anne when I read your posts I cringe inside by what opportunities we are missing out on in Vienna. What a nice safe walkable community we could be.

It appears to have been sold to CHAHEL AMARJIT the owner of the Vienna Mobil station. Another gas station most likely.

There was momentum for this to happen a couple of years past, and with much enthusiasm from VPC, but, again, the Vienna TC dropped the ball, and we are still clammering for adequate parking and long term solutions. Now at the last TC meeting, we have Mayor Jane Boob saying that they have been negligent, and she admits that she is in way over her head to do anything about it. The TOV has what it deserves: an angry pompous mean spirited Maud Robinson who has nothing to show in life but her time spent pushing her New England Ideology on Vienna, and the sheep of a {...] mayor who is too dumb to realize that she is the mayor, and sits back and watches Vienna drift backwards while Fairfax and other surrounding towns go forward. All for what? So our old farts can park at Magruders... where the rats run the show.

If you think that's progress, we need more banks, because they are the only "developers" that can afford to invest in Vienna prime real estate. And before Maud and Mayor Boob realize what they have done, needed businesses who want to invest in Vienna will have to pay much more than other areas, leading them to want even higher height limits to cover the extra costs in their investments. Think this is not so?

Oh Thank God it will remain a gas station.

THE VIENNA VISION COMMITTEE SPENT YEARS ON AN IN DEPTH STUDY REGARDING THE MAPLE AVE COMMERCIAL CORRIDOR. AFTER VERY LITTLE CONSIDERATION BY THE TC, ITS' RECOMMENDATIONS WERE BURIED IN FAVOR OF THE COMPLETELY IMPRACTICAL LET'S GO BACK TO THE '50's VERSION OF MAPLE AVE. BY MAUDE THE FRAUD AND "ME TOO" JANE. REALLY GREAT "LEADERSHIP"!
