On Beulah: Incompetence Personified Comments (14)
From a new poster:
The real complaint here shouldn't be about sidewalks or trees but rather the mis-management of VDOT and the Town of Vienna not holding VDOT accountable. When was the last time you have seen a worker? They go days and weeks working intermittently because nobody is overseeing the project first hand. Beulah Rd is an accident waiting to happen. God forbid there is a medical emergency on Beulah. How does an ambulance or fire truck get up that 1 way Street? If Maud or any TC member lived on or off Beulah Rd the project would have been completed in May. It's less than a mile long. The problem is the workers don't know what there doing. They are asking residents where water valves, cable line and power lines are. Did they call Ms. Utility? I doubt that any of them can spell it. I invite any council member to visit Beulah Rd or try crossing it in any of their cars at Church or Ayrhill (enjoy the pot holes!!) This problem needs to be fixed now!!!!
We say: Go Maud!

Former Vienna Town Council Member Dies; Maud Opines Comments (5)
From the papers:
“Vince was the true soul of this town,” said Vienna Town Council member Maud Robinson. “He was the soul of integrity. He was a good family man. He had something that all the college degrees in the world can't give you: instinctive intelligence and common sense.”

Laurie Cole: "Property Rights Mean Sh**" Comments (27)
From the papers:
"Town Council member Laurie Cole [said] that the town [should] consider registering landlords who rent property in Vienna but do not live in the town. The town could use Rhode Island's rules as a model, Cole said."
What other Nazi-like tactics you got up your sleeve Laurie? Maybe you could put "stars" on those out of Town landlords too? Better yet maybe you could put all of the out of town landlords and their properties into a new historic district with no rules or substance? We feel for you though. It must be hard waking up each day as an attorney with no real purpose. Dreaming up new ways to screw over people's property rights, inventing foolish laws, must be the ultimate high for you!

The Younger Generation Is Now Reading! Comments (6)
From a posted comment today:
...I really do like this website! I'm only 20, but Ive lived here since I was 4 (along with my other family members) and had no idea about all this crazy mess with Vienna's "government." Thanks for the info and keep it coming!
Next time around? Everyone needs to vote out the dinosaurs! We need your help.

Traffic Up, Freeman Store Open, Town Green Empty Comments (5)
The traffic in Vienna is clearly some of the worst in Northern Virginia. To make things worse our Town Council members have conspired with the State to produce two of the most inefficient and incompetent road projects ever - Beulah Road and Branch Avenue. But guess what? The Freeman store is open and empty as is the Town Green. Maud's priorities are not the priorities of the average citizen. Does anyone have the guts to call her out except this site?

Beulah Road Disaster Is in Your Lap Maudasaurus Comments (14)
From a resident:
The Beulah Road Construction has turned to nightmare for Vienna residents especially residents live along the section of construction. The contractors VDOT authorized have not exercised care or respects to not to encroach the property right of the residents involve on the path of construction. There are several incidents that contractors used drive ways or private properties to be the staging area of their equipments and caused some drive way damaged after their equipments were removed. Residents spoke to on site manger of Martin and Gass to express the concerns of these property damages and the contractor has yet to dispatch any personal to fix the problem.
There was another incident around 9:30 PM on October 17, 2007 when the utility company was trying to work on the water utility. The utility company worker placed some lighting device in the middle of one resident’s drive way. When the resident requested the utility company to temporarily remove the lighting device so that she can pull into the drive way the utility company worker not only refused to do so and she started cursing, swearing and threatening the resident about the utility company’s right to take over the drive way when they’re working on the project. The utility worker started walking toward the garage and taking pictures of the resident and the house. When this worker was asked to leave the private property she not only refused to do so and she continued to occupy the drive way and swear to the resident.
From all these incidents it’s showing the miss-management of VDOT and lack of oversight from town of Vienna has allowed contractors and associated working groups to ignore resident’s legal rights and quite enjoyment of their properties. And phone calls made to VDOT management posted on VDOT web site were never returned by any VDOT officials. It’s yet to be determined if VDOT’s contractors have broken any Virginia law by allowing their workers to trespass private properties.
Like many bloggers mentioned it should not take one year to construct this 0.8 mile of two-lane road. The lack of planning and mismanagement of Town of Vienna and VDOT have caused properties residents along the way suffer serious noise, dust, property trespassing and harassment of un-trained workers.
Hey guess what? Maud is 85 (not the 80 or 81 she lies about in the press) and doesn't give a sh**. Until people stop electing this whacked out and incompetent crackpot we will get more of the same! And Mayor Boob, well she is right there too!

Has anyone noticed how unbearable it has become to drive through the Town with all these speed bumps? They might as well just tear up the streets & go back to dirt roads.

Traffic Lights In Vienna (Part 2) Comments (1)
We posted an article the other day about traffic light timing in Vienna. Someone responded:
At 5:30 AM, the lights are set so as soon as someone comes to Maple from a side street (I.E. Center, Park, Glyndon etc.) it will immediately cycle the light to Red on Maple, Green for the vehicle coming off the side street. Hence the reason you were stopped at 4 red lights coming down Maple. The lights change to the "morning rush" cycle at 6:00.
Thanks for that. Now for a new question. Why is there bottleneck traffic and light timing issues from hell in Vienna limits at 700pm on a Friday night? All the way from Mclean, starting at 123/Kirby Road, traffic moves with timed lights. Why does it become a horror scene right when you get into Vienna? Oh, we know, Maud will soon talk of her early years where lights were not needed for horse and buggy travel.

Maud Enlists Fantasy Island Stars to Solve Vienna Business Woes Comments (14)
Recently it was reported that the Danor Plaza Shopping Center in Vienna, the one with That's Amore, Baskin Robbins, etc. along Branch Road, was having a tough time due to road work on Branch Road. So how did Maud put the finger in the dike of businesses taking it on the chin? The Town has placed a blinking road work sign along Maple Avenue near Wu's Garden reminding people that Danor Plaza Shopping Center is open for business. Only on Fantasy Island does this ding dong attempt at a solution make sense. Maybe Maud will give businesses that go under, due to her and the Town Council's poor planning, a free pizza coupon when they close down?

Traffic Lights in Vienna Comments (15)
Can anyone explain why if traveling from before Lawyers Road toward Tysons on Maple Avenue at 530am in the morning...that one needs to hit 4 lights? It sums up the Jane and Maud style of government for sure.

Vienna Sign Permits: More Silliness from Vienna Town Hall Comments (4)
From Vienna code:
During election campaigns, candidates and their supporters should be aware of the Towns´ regulations pertaining to political signs: Five temporary signs not exceeding 20 square feet total may be posted on residential property after receiving a permit and posting of a $25 bond. Signs may be erected up to 30 days prior to election day and must be removed within five days after the election. It is unlawful to place signs on street lights, telephone poles, markers or other signs, or to place a sign without a permit within 10 feet of the curb or edge of pavement. For more information about signs, call the Planning and Zoning Department at 703-255-6341.
Why is this not enforced ever in Vienna? It is unenforceable that's why. Free speech, a Constitutional protection, can't be limited by Maudasaurus' poorly worded code. All of these silly Vienna codes are designed to let the powers that be mess with their enemies and protect their buddies. It's all about subjectivity versus objectivity and guess what? Maud doesn't like anything that's objective!

No Gangs Here in Vienna. Right Mad Maud? Comments (18)
From the local papers:

Suspected gang member arrested in Vienna
Fairfax County
Source: Fairfax County Times
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 5 2007
Around 8:53 p.m., PFC Dean Bailey of the Vienna Police Department stopped a 1997 Toyota Corolla in the 200 block of Maple Avenue SE for failing to use headlights. According to the Vienna Police Department, PFC Bailey determined that the driver, Walter Martinez, was wanted in connection with his alleged involvement in a robbery and malicious wounding at the Cedar Lane Shopping Center [For reference the location in question] in June. In the earlier incident, a security guard at the shopping center observed three men attempting to break into an automobile. One of them was armed with a knife, police said. When police responded, they located an injured robbery victim. A police statement about the June incident described Martinez as a known member of [a local gang]. Additionally, Martinez had two warrants on file for failing to appear at court hearings in Fairfax County. Bailey arrested Martinez and transported him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he is currently being held without bond. Jose Javier Ayala, also connected with the June incident at the Cedar Lane shopping center, remains at large.

Candidates for the Hunter Mill District Seat Comments (12)
Here are the (4) candidates running for the Hunter Mill District seat on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors:
Cathy Hudgins (D) - website
Marie Huhtala (I) - website
Spike Williams (I) - website
Geraldine Butkus (Green) - website
NONE of these people have anything to do with Vienna! Can there be a more uninspiring field of candidates? And once again, where is the Vienna Town Council? Our elected representatives in Vienna just keep their heads buried in the sand pretending Vienna is not part of Fairfax County.

Vienna Town Council Gives Middle Finger to Drought Comments (16)
From Vienna Mommy:
Governor Kaine wants our state to be declared a disaster but Mad Maud and Mayor Boob are still running their leaky Town Green fountain and watering the flowers at Sarah Mercer park (as witnessed at 12:30pm today). Shouldn't our elected VIENNA officials at least act like they care or even watch the evening news?Kaine Asks For Statewide Disaster Declaration
October 2, 2007
nbc4.comRICHMOND, Va. -- Gov. Tim Kaine is asking the United States Department of Agriculture to declare Virginia a statewide disaster area. The request follows reductions in farm production caused by drought and high temperatures. Kaine's office said that the majority of Virginia's localities have already requested federal assistance. In Loudoun County, the Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to grant the Sanitation Authority's request and declare a water shortage emergency, imposing mandatory water restrictions, News4's Tracee Wilkins reported. Residents are asked to limit water use to no more than 75 gallons of water per person per day. Residents are also required to use only 3-gallon water containers to water lawns and wash cars. Restaurants will serve water only when requested, and ornamental fountains would have to be turned off. Failure to follow the ordinance could result in a $500 fine. Those living in Stafford County are already under water restrictions and more could be on the way. The original restrictions were put into effect a couple of weeks ago and were aimed at getting people to cut back on watering their lawn, but without any significant rainfall since then, the water level in the county's two main water supplies has continued to drop. Officials said if the current trend continues, Stafford could run out of water in four months. Because agriculture statewide has been impacted by the drought, Kaine and agriculture officials decided a statewide designation is needed. The designation would make low-interest loans and other relief available to farmers. Kaine said Virginia has never sought a statewide drought disaster designation before.

Jane Seeman and Maud Robinson Support Chap Peterson or Jeannemarie Devolites-Davis? Comments (7)
Jane Seeman and Maud Robinson support who? Neither of these long time political dinosaurs have signs in their front yard for either Chap Peterson or Jeannemarie Devolites-Davis. Are Vienna's machine operators blowing in the wind?
Town Green on Life Support; Maud Calls Sun Gazette for Spin Comments (55)
From the Sun Gazette comes news of new user fees for groups who want to use the Town Green:
Council members expressed support for a set of fees suggested by Parks and Recreation Director Cathy Salgado. Only Vienna-based groups - no businesses, for-profit organizations or private groups - would be allowed to rent the Town Green for $25 per hour and for a maximum of two rentals per month for the first year. Applications would be made between 90 and 180 days before the event and accompanied by a nonrefundable $25 fee. Groups would have to provide a map showing locations of tents, stages, food vendors and electrical equipment and carry at least a $1 million insurance policy that names the town as beneficiary. Groups using the park would pay a $500 refundable security deposit, plus $50 per officer per hour if police support is required. Organizations also would pay $25 per hour for support from town staff. The Town Green would have to remain open to the public during the events, and no admission fees could be charged at the park. No alcohol, inflatable rides or tents larger than 12-by-12-feet would be allowed.
Considering no one goes to the Town Green, what is this all about? Apparently, the man hours that generated the above proposal came from "surveys":
In surveys town officials took of Town Green users, some people complained about the presence of political organizations there, and that a band member was smoking a cigarette behind the amphitheater.
Surveys from who complained about what political organizations at the Town Green? A guy was smoking a cigarette and we now shape policy around that? We can't solve traffic, we can't solve a decaying Maple Avenue business corridor, we can't solve sidewalks, but we can make sure one guy in a band never smokes at the Town Green again? Are you serious Maudasaurus? Yes, kids, she is serious.
Brian Trompeter (Joseph Goebbels's brother in spirit) ends with:
The town recently finished its 21-show summer concert series at the Town Green, and will host 12 concerts or events there this fall, Salgado said. The town now is processing about 70 applications for events at the Town Green next year. Town Green events have drawn between 50 and 300 people each this year, and have not caused traffic or parking problems, she said.
This is all sounds great, but to anyone with a pulse they know this park has been empty since inception. Give Maud credit she can make Brian Trompeter write anything she wants.
