On Beulah: Incompetence Personified
From a new poster:
The real complaint here shouldn't be about sidewalks or trees but rather the mis-management of VDOT and the Town of Vienna not holding VDOT accountable. When was the last time you have seen a worker? They go days and weeks working intermittently because nobody is overseeing the project first hand. Beulah Rd is an accident waiting to happen. God forbid there is a medical emergency on Beulah. How does an ambulance or fire truck get up that 1 way Street? If Maud or any TC member lived on or off Beulah Rd the project would have been completed in May. It's less than a mile long. The problem is the workers don't know what there doing. They are asking residents where water valves, cable line and power lines are. Did they call Ms. Utility? I doubt that any of them can spell it. I invite any council member to visit Beulah Rd or try crossing it in any of their cars at Church or Ayrhill (enjoy the pot holes!!) This problem needs to be fixed now!!!!
We say: Go Maud!

As of late Monday night, 10/30, there was still a message sign trailer parked in the median on Nutley at I-66 announcing that Maple/123 will be closed Wednesday evening, 10/24. VDOT or Town of Vienna incompetence? Take your pick!

You are exactly right, VDOT will go as slow as they want without oversight.

most of them probably don't even know where Beulah Road is. It's mind boggling that such a small project is taking this long.

This is exactly right. Not many people truly understand how volatile living on Beulah Rd between 123 and Wolftrap Elementary School really is. I was driving into Vienna from the Reston area on Monday and noticed about two or three 6 or 7 year olds, Wolftrap ES walkers, walking home around all of the construction on sidewalks that were blocked off in some places and non-exsistent in others. I slowed down enough to make sure they made it around 1 piece of machinery without entering the road, this is a disaster and between the new guard rails around all the cones on Beulah avoiding an accident would involve hitting these poor children - who have to do this everyday - as they get ready to walk home in the winter / snow.
Additionally no one seems to have thought about the consequences of blocking Beulah TO Vienna. As mentioned this prevents units responding from any sort of emergency to take a length detour which is now filled with speed bumps which force apparatus to absolutely go under 25mph - they simply can't comfortably hit these bumps at more than that. You are REALLY in a bad situation if you truly need help, it's not the fire departments fault, it's because of a lack of planning.

Yeah, its a mess. I live off of McArthur, which is off of Beulah. The emergency vehicles actually have to take the backroads- I often hear their sirens.
I was pretty bored one night, and saw an ambulance heading down my way, so I decided to see where it was headed. ((I know, Im horrible.)) It took the back roads over to Beulah to turn onto Abottsford ((another reason that those roads should have been connected when they were built!!!))
I walk dogs, and one of my visits happened to be off of Beulah. What a pain in the BUTT!!! I had to sit there while the workers dragged their butts and stared/whistled at me just so that they could move their 2 ton piece of crap equipment so that I could make a turn!
Its really freakin frustrating.
So when this Maud woman and the other one do finally leave the council (or pass away) whichever comes first...who will take their spots? Im just curious.

How sad is it that there are more political signs to inspire voters than VDOT workers on Beulah? Beulah Rd is taking longer to constuct than the Town Green!!!!
Maybe Maud and Jane can inspire the Men's Garden Club (Vienna Rotary Club) to donate money or time Beulah Rd. Word has it that they asked them for apprx 50k for the fountain on the Green.
What this town needs is a Mayor and TC with youth and forward vision.
How is that Public Works Trucks can take down realators "For Sale" signs and private citizens "Yard Sale" signs but allow over 1500 "Vote For" Chap and JMDV
signs in Vienna. How is this beautifing Vienna?

Jane will do nothing to help Beulah incompetence simply because she is not equipped to know what to do, or at least that what she would like you to think... could it be that this is the way she is getting back at all the people that tried to get her voted out of office last election day in Vienna?

Minerva,
I guarantee you, Maude will die before anyone has the guts to oust her from office. she could have another ten years left in her. Let's not forget the incompetent Mayor Jane, who's likely to be there for life as well.

Minerva the Mayor and TC only anoint people who will pass down their legacy of incompetence. Last year a TC member resigned and without any input from the citizens one was anointed and appointed. Mind you this happened only a few months after an election where there were 2 new challengers.
Its really freakin frustrating-you bet!!

??? Small project? no sidewalks??? Is that the same Beulah I drove down the other day? The one place I observed no sidewalk being constructed is where there was about at six foot very steep hill, and to put a sidewalk in would have required substantial taking of homeowners property. Is that what all the property rights advocates on this site asking for? Its easy to complain. Believe it or not, there were a number of meetings, as Anne Smith pointed out, with the community, to address concerns. How many of you whiners attended those? And last time I checked, Woltrap Elementary was not in the town of Vienna - have we annexed it?

Just the Facts, I don't get it. Vienna is not supposed to protect our children going to Wolftrap Elementary because it is not in the town of vienna, but the town can inject itself into the development around the Metro Station and 123 to Tysons Corner both of which are in the County.

Just the facts,
Not sure what you meant by your comment, but what does it matter whether Wolftrap Elementary is in the incorporated part of town or not when children who live in the town attend that school? Since all of the schools are part of Fairfax County and not the Town of Vienna, I hope the Town of Vienna and it's residents consider the safe walking to school of all children living in Vienna equally (at least up to the boundaries of the town), not just those who attend the schools within its boundaries.

Sidewalks would have been difficult that one block between Church & Ayrhill where the enbankment is steep. The rest of the way down Beulah would not have been difficult.
And, do not assume people reading this board were not in attendance at the meetings.

Could you please identify where on Beulah there are no sidewalks. I drove it today, and pretty much saw sidewalks with the exception of the steep areas noted by a poster above.
