Forget the party line spin of local newspapers, this is the destination for honest and blunt insight on all Town of Vienna, Virginia issues. Our site is read daily by every Vienna Council Member (like Jane Seeman and Maud Robinson), Town Board Member and Town employee, but none will ever admit it!
This site was originally started to document the inconsistencies within the Windover Heights Historic District. A quick synopsis of Vienna, Virginia "historic" politics.

I'm at home drinking a beer in honor of Jamestown while the children sleep.
Seriously, though, can we actually have a theme that has SOMETHING to do with Halloween?!
I suggest "Groovy Ghoulies" for next year. Let's make this parade fun again. It's one big political rally that has NOTHING to do with Halloween. Except the kids in costumes - that's the best part.

I applaud the Historic Vienna people marching in the parade... I mean, they really do give credence to the preservation of historic homes we have in Vienna. Next year, I think someone should make a float that resembles the Moorefield house that was destroyed and torn down last year. That would be great! It's the least our town can do because of the fact that the one and only true historic property and structure (the only one on the National Registry of Historic Homes)
See:

Wow! But if you look at the Real National Registry, the Moorefield House has been removed because the Vienna Town Council BOOBS destroyed the site:

So, the gathering they had last weekend with the ceremony and the unveiling of their new rock/plaque is really a joke!

Good point about the politics!
My BF and I actually didnt get to the parade until the very end. I didnt see the maud-monster or the other senile-seeman or whoever she is. ((A friend of mine said that she was his teacher at one point and would forget things often.))
But anyways, more Halloween! Its fun :)

This years parade, as mentioned by other posters for this thread, proved completely that it is nothing more than a moving political rally. As a matter of fact I don't know if others noticed, but I would say 40% of the families / kids were NOT dressed up this year, due to the rain. What do you get when you have a bunch of soccer mom's holding town office and state delegate signs, bundled up, oohing-ahinng a parade? Not so much a Halloween Parade.

You are wrong about the Moorefield House NOT being in the National Registry:
It still is:

But, I think this is all the more tragic when this stupid TOWN Council let the property be destroyed and hauled away, simply because it was going to cost somewhere around 1-2 million dollars to preserve.
So, lets get this straight:
1. The TC abuses the rights of property owners who own houses they own within an area the Town of Vienna has designated the Historic District, even though they admit that this district has absolutely nothing to do with historicity or the preservation of any such historic homes.
2. The Vienna Historic District is NOT in the National Registry of Historic Places, but Alexandria, Herndon, Fairfax City, Clifton, Fairfax County, Potomac, Charlottesville, Norfolk, Suffolk, Leesburg, Fredericksburg, Roanoke, Richmond, the list goes on and on... all have truly designated Historic Districts that abide by truly historic codes that don't simply pretend to preserve history by have a bunch of fools who know nothing of preservation making decision as to what color to paint your house based on no laws, rules, or reason, but rather simply whether they happen to "like that color..."
(absurd isn't it!)
3. The only structure that Vienna had in any National Registry of Historic Places was torn down, destroyed and hauled away because it was going to cost about 1-2 million dollars to preserve via true historic guidelines.
4. The TC (MAUD) recently hoodwinked the TC into spending more than $3-5 million dollars for the Town Brown and for all wasted waster, silly looking water feature, and dead trees, the Moorefield House would have been better and cheaper, and they would really have something they could call historic, and not just some make believe sham of a district run by Lane Hyde and her biddies who pretend they know something about preservation, and they probably don't know how to preserve jam.
5. Real people have gotten hurt by the decisions and abuses from the board members and WHRB, and this ultimately means that they are acting out of the bounds of legality, and hence multiple lawsuits have been filed against the town and the TC is wasting your tax dollars trying to defend a district they admit has nothing to do with history, preservation, or anything even remotely close to historic preservation.
Why do we let them hurt us?

OK, so you have lived in Vienna all your life. Do you know that the town had proposed selling the Moorfield House to a private party with the caveat that it would be historically restored and open to the public about twice a year. The buyer proposed paying $750,000. to the town. Obviously the town had reservations and the deal fell through. Now you recall that the Moorfield house is to be rebuilt. How about rebuilding it at the TG?

REGARDING REBUILDING THE MOOREFIELD HOUSE, IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT ONCE SUCH A STRUCTURE IS TORN DOWN AND MOVED IT LOSES ITS HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE. FOR EXAMPLE, IF THE LOG CABIN PRESENTLY LOCATED AT THE CORNER OF WINDOVER AND WALNUT LANE, NW HAD OR HAS ANY HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE, IT IS WITH ARLINGTON COUNTY WHERE IT EXISTED UNTIL A FEW YEARS AGO WHEN IT WAS TRANSPORTED TO VIENNA. PHONY HISTORY AND PRESERVATION? I THINK SO, PARTICULARLY SINCE IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH VIENNA.
