A Day in the Life of a Vienna Board

This link is a great example of what goes on during a Vienna board meeting. It is worth noting the truly inane comments from Maud crony Laine Hyde. Isn't this all special? We spend money and time to approve or disapprove "colors" of signs even though there are no rules or guidelines explaining what colors are appropriate or not. How did we get to the point that our government is filled with numerous mentally challenged Forest Gumps?

Comments

Hey, don't diss the mentally challenged by comparing them to Laine or any of those other Vienna Town Council a** kissers.

The mentally challenged usually don't lie or cover up the truth. They usually share nicely, and want what's best for everyone.

So unlike Laine and her ilk.

Great point, bad example on this end. Apologies. No apologies to Laine though!

What the hell?

...there was a board meeting over this??

I dont know anything about "signage" (I dont think that is even a real word...) regulations in the town, but come on! Another town WASTE.

How ridiculous.

You have to see it to believe it: these people really do think they are doing good for Vienna. They sit up there on their butts and decide who to abuse and who to sweet-talk to, based on nothing at all but their own preconceived notions of what a sign should look like, or more often, whether they like the cut of your jib. In other words, completely ARBITRARY AND CAPRICIOUS and for those of you who live in Loma Linda or you are an apathetic non-voter in Vienna: - Absence of a rational connection between the facts found and the choice made.

Reading the minutes is such a poor substitute to actually witnessing how really dumb and inane these people are.

If you ever have nothing better to do with your evenings and cable or satellite is out, go down and watch these boobs in action: you will either laugh your arse off or cry in anger. Some of them actually appear drunk. It's truly no wonder why these sots don't wish to see themselves on Vienna's Cable Station, and that's the reason Robinson is hell bent on keeping Vienna Meetings from being broadcast on Vienna's Cable PEG Station: Channel 23 on Cox Communications

Yes, Vienna has been getting over $200,000 / year to fund the broadcasting of all of its meetings, and Robinson is fighting to spend the money on her dead trees in the water park, or whatever, who knows. People like Seeman, Polychrones, and Kelleher will also have you think that Vienna cannot afford to broadcast their meetings, which is a bald faced lie, and they know it.

A group of us have actually gotten together and did the research to determine what the start up costs and running expenses are needed to broadcast these meetings on cable, and it could be done with less than half of what Cox is paying/giving Vienna for the ability to do so, and Robinson is dead set against it. Go figure, it's your town, but it's her throne.

Tyranny through apathy Minerva, which is why I am glad you are out there!

Tyranny through apathy.

That was a really good way of putting it! Thanks Frustrated Citizen :)

Tyranny through apathy

Simple, True, Vienna's Political Situation

We need to change the way Vienna Votes, if we don't, Fairfax County will eventually own us due to the complete negligence of this town council in wasting our time, money, and resources on things we will not be able to afford. What to you say, Maud, you can't have your cake and eat it, too. But just posting on this site is only the beginning, we need to energize a the voters who don't vote and inform the one's who have no idea they can vote, to getting these idiots out of office. We need press, and shoes. We have the facts in our side, and we must act on them, otherwise, we die, and that's no way to triumph over tyranny for whatever reason.

Either that, or get the Justice Department involved.

At on meeting with an audience of one several applicants huddled with Chuck and discussed the application, ignoring the audience. The meeting was over in five minutes. This, contrary to the show that is performed when there are a number of persons in the audience.

Why do I snicker every time I hear a Vienna politician whining that they are underrepresented on a task force or committee in NoVa. It is because you all are BOOBS.

Towns want more from NVTA
Vienna - Oakton

One of the conditions of the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority's new funding authority, which the Virginia General Assembly approved in March, was that it create a policy advisory committee to make recommendations on how the funds would be spent.

Now, it's nearly winter, and no such committee has been created.

"It's a matter of what needs to be done most immediately," said NVTA spokeswoman Kala Quintana.

To Northern Virginia's towns – the group the advisory committee was meant to represent – that's not good enough.

"It keeps getting put off and put off," said Vienna Councilwoman Laurie Cole. "We're asking for a seat at the table." She means that literally.

Vienna, Clifton and Herndon, along with towns in Loudoun and Prince William counties, have banded together in the Towns Association of Northern Virginia and have decided to make an end run around the NVTA's priority list. While the advisory committee would have only had the power to make recommendations to the board of the NVTA, the newly empowered localities want more.

"The way the town mayors have banded together now ensures that our voice is going to be heard," Clifton Mayor Tom Peterson said.

Each of the towns is asking its state representatives to create a new chair at the NVTA table, a chair that would be filled by town representatives on a rotating basis. Meanwhile, those affiliated with the NVTA insist that the towns are already being represented.

"Right now they have a say, no one has been shut out of the process," Quintana said.

NVTA maintains that all three Fairfax county towns are represented by Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerry Connolly, who sits on the NTVA board.

"The members give pretty thorough consideration to issues; this isn't a body so parochial that I feel anyone's interests have been left out," said Margi Vanderhye, a governor's appointee to the NVTA and a delegate-elect from McLean.

"Towns have differing needs and being at the table gives you insight into the decision-making," Cole said.

Cole admits that even the actual formation of the town-centric advisory committee would help, but according to Quintana, that could take a while.

"Part of the problem is that there is no official staff, no executive director, a lot of logistical things constantly being worked on. It's not that it's not an important issue, but there is a limited amount of personnel," Quintana said.

Too bad they are not taped to see such back scratching going on!

I've always thought it would be better if the town government disolved & the town just became part of the county. most of the town's services and government functions just duplicate what the county already provides, and they do it less professionally, less effeciently, and at a higher cost because of the lack of scale. the level of professionalism is never very high in small town governments because such jobs don't offer the career path that a large body like a county government offers. So even at its best, a small town will always be run by inexperienced beginners, and those without better options.

Fairfax County consistently ranks as one of the best managed jurisdictions in the US. Why does Vienna keep insisting that they do it better?

Other than the promotion of the opening of Abbottsford Drive what can any representative from Vienna have to offer. Would they block the building of roads in the same manner they stopped development at the Metro? Vienna is Fairfax County, Fairfax County is not Vienna.

I'm not necessarily for keeping things the way they are now, but I'm not excited about having Fairfax County run Vienna either. Maybe Fairfax is good at running some things which Vienna could turn over to them, but nationally and locally they haven't had a great reputation for good planning at least in the past. Just look all around Vienna at Tysons, Route 50, the sprawling unconnected homes outside of Vienna, Merrifield, 7 corners, their own govt. center, etc. to see some "great" examples of Fairfax County's plan approvals. And since it's doubtful Vienna will change over to Fairfax County anytime soon, I would prefer having town boards that were proactive today and for the future of Vienna for those of us who aren't in their 80's and would like Vienna to adapt to new and better practices while keeping much of what people like most about Vienna so that it remains a great place to live. Another nice thing about towns is that in a town you "should" be able to have more citzen input than in a larger area like Fairfax.

but in vienna, citizen input falls on deaf ears.

I would like to surrender the Town to Fairfax City. I like everything I see them doing.
