Keeping the Machine Oiled: Robinson and Cole Pour in Some Grease

From the Sun Gazette:

Legislators also should resist efforts to force towns to hold local elections in November, said Council member Maud Robinson.

No surprise that Maud wants her machine run Spring election to continue. What is her argument for that? Well, she doesn't say. Also from the Sun Gazette:

Council members also reviewed a proposal by Finance Director Phil Grant to let residents pay for more town services by credit card. Grant proposed the town use Arlington-based Govolution, which handles Fairfax County's credit-card processing. The town charges convenience fees for online payments of water bills, traffic tickets, meter deposits and real estate taxes, but under the new proposal would have absorbed most fees for credit-card payments made over-the-counter at town facilities. But the Town Council opposed having the town absorb credit-card fees. Subsidizing an estimated $8,000 annually in credit-card charges “could pay for two speed humps,” said Council member Laurie Cole.

Cole worries about $8000, but spends $5+ million on a "Town Green" that no one uses. Laurie do you think no one sees the hypocrisy? Keeping the Town run like Mayberry is a clear part of keeping the machine running smooth. Transparency and ease of use? Not when you have ding dongs like Robinson and Cole running the show.

What *exactly* would it take procedurally to get the voting changed to Nov?

Most of us do not use a CC to pay taxes or utilities. Let's make it so we can use a check online just like Fairfax County.

And, yes, Maud, your dog-n-pony election show in the Spring will be stopped. I will make sure of it.

Perhaps Cole can tear up the dysfunctional fountain at the Town Green and make a speed bump out of it.

I HATE those damn credit card charges!! It sucks enough paying ridiculous taxes, and then when trying to find "convenience" you lose.

With thr 5% food tax, dont they get enough?

What the hell do they spend their money on? I know it was the town green, the irritating brick sidewalks, and possibly the extra speed bumps and stop signs (also irritating).

GRRR!!!

Is there ANYTHING we can do to get these old hags out of here!!!

All of the documentation that it takes to move the Vienna election to November has been secured. The process will involve putting it up for a vote on the Nov 08 ballot. We the people, under State law, can put it on the ballot. More news to come on this, but it will involve first having 10% of the Vienna voting electorate signing a petition to request that the ballot initiative be added for Nov 08. This is all outside Maud's perview and control.

Outside of Maud's purview and control???? Who is going to TELL her that????

If you recall the scene toward the end of "The Wizard of Oz", when the Wicked Witch dissolves after Dorothy accidentally gets her wet, expect the same sort of reaction from Maud that ANYTHING in this town should be beyond her control.

Two speed bumps for $8000, they must be getting them cheaper by the dozen. The last figure I heard was that each speed bump cost $7000.

I was driving down Maple Ave on Monday and saw a lot of work being done to the Town Green. Anyone know what that was about?

They are planting new trees and fixing the pavers so that the water from the fountain won't go everywhere. I hope the new trees survive.

Has anyone seen the Town Brown today? They are digging it up.

Why?

No one in TC will say. Spending more than perhaps another 20-50,000 $$$ to fix the poorly designed and contsructed water featuure.

Imagine that, the town wasting more of our tax dollars, when we don't even get sidewalk repairs or new construction so our children can walk safely to school.

Maud's priorities don't include kids, because she probably doesn't even like youngsters. Have you ever, ever seen her do anything nice that involves our Town's kids?

Does anyone have pics to show the demolition of the Town Brown?

Get real, I heard Maud learned there was gold under the fountain, and she's digging it up to get rich!

Of course, she's so old, she didn't realize that they weren't saying, Gold they were saying, Mold

Yuk, yuk, yuk. ;)

I am not even an engineer, but the pavers have nothing to do with the problem of the water runnoff, etc.

You are going yo have to do a lot $$$$$$$ more than just replace or dig up or fix the pavers to fix this problem, simply because the base beneath these pavers is solid concrete.

Their are several solutions to this, and I am curious to see what actions the town employees use to perform their fix and to see if they are smart enough to do just that and not just sit around in their trucks eating donuts.

It will be interesting to see if they can chose the solution that will cost a heck of lot less than the rest...

But knowing Maud, she will have ordered them to do whatever it takes to get the job done the fastest so she will not have to take the ridicule for having the Town Brown all torn up.

If you guys want a little advice, maybe you could hold a contest on this site to have people submit their plans to fix the problem, or are you all to fixated on Maud to ask for inside help?

I bet there are more than a few good engineers and contractors here in Vienna that could help, but, I forgot, this is the Town that no-one gets along in and hates to be unified in any action or process, just like our leader, Maud the Megalomaniac.

I fixed my fountain months ago!

Maud is my Leader, and I love her, and hope she stays in office forever, because she's just like Hilliary in my book: she doesn't take crap from no-one, and she's a great leader for us old folks who have no one else to turn to when we need something from the town, like lower taxes, lower water prices, better parking spaces at Magruders, the fires on the strolls along Church Street, the crack down by Vienna Police against those terrible teenage skaters, our favorite meeting place at the Freeman store where Lane gives us free punch at the taxpayers expense, and early bird specials at Amphoras... the list goes on... She will always be our leader because you young saps don't even know what you want in this town, and you don't vote, so there! Put that in your pipe and smoke it! and I want to take the time now to dedicate the near fountain to be renamed the Maud Robinson Memorial Fountain for the whole town of Vienna, because for all the work she did to make it possible, and that's the least the town can do to memorialize this fine upstanding person, and I truly hope she finds the gold under that fountain and gets the pavers back into place soon, because I need to go there and use my cell phone!

I would love to participate in said contest, Town Green :)

I would also love to hear everyone's personal opinion about what needs to be changed and how we can change it.

Im not just talking about getting Maud and Seeman out of "office" but other things, like ideas on how to fix traffic issues, whatever.

I proposed a whimsical fountain fix, but not a contest.

>>Im not just talking about getting Maud and Seeman out of "office" but other things, like ideas on how to fix traffic issues, whatever.

I propose a 3-way stop or signal at Park and Locust and at Church and Lawyers. And remove all of the speed bumps.
