Mayor Jane Seeman Is Not Competent; Yet Another Example
From the Sun Gazette comes some interesting quotes:
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Keith Johnson has recommended that Vienna's July 4 fireworks show not by held at Waters Field...Johnson...who was at Waters Field when the accident occurred, recommended town officials not hold the fireworks display there because the crowd is too close. “Vienna is one of the tightest shoots we do,” said Johnson, noting that spectators completely encircle the launching site.
Mayor Seeman's response?
But Vienna Mayor M. Jane Seeman said the prospect of relocating the town's beloved fireworks show is distressing. “It kills me to have to move them from out of Vienna,” she said. “I've already heard from citizens: ‘You're not going to move them.'”
It just "kills" her? A mother and her child are nearly killed and it just "kills" Seeman? Seeman is not qualified to lead people to a Don's John, much less be a Mayor.

In the Mayor's defense, my 92 year old grandmother would say the same thing.

I have just received several e-mails advertising a product called "Colon Cleanse." Sounds as if Jane could use a bottle or two.

Anyone notice that the Vienna Times doesn't get those *juicy* quotes from the Mayor or Maud?!
Fireworks incident could spark change in Vienna
Monty Tayloe
"It's my recommendation that you do not have this shoot in Vienna," said Fairfax County Fire Department Battalion Chief Keith Johnson, addressing the Vienna Town Council at a work session Monday night.
Johnson was speaking of the annual Independence Day fireworks display at Waters Field. At last year's celebration, a "catastrophic failure" during the display launched fireworks into the crowd, injuring 11 people, two severely. Monday's work session is the beginning of the Vienna Town Council's re-examination of its fireworks policy since that incident.
"The issue with Vienna is that it's one of the tightest shoots we do. ... It's one of the only shoots that are witnessed in 360 degrees," Johnson said.
Although the same kind of "cake box" commercial fireworks failed in a similar way at six other sites in Fairfax County last summer, Vienna's shoot was the only one where spectators were injured. Johnson says other crowds at other shoots in the county view fireworks displays from much farther away than at Vienna's traditional Waters Field display.
Johnson has administratively doubled the required distance spectators must sit from fireworks mortars, one of the few alterations to county fireworks policy that he can make without approval of the Board of Supervisors. However, he doesn't believe it's enough.
"Fireworks are not safe and not reliable," said Johnson, who personally witnessed last year's accident, and was one of the first on the scene.
Since July 4, Johnson has been examining the product failure that caused the accident, and is seeking aid from national agencies to better regulate municipal fireworks. According to Johnson, there is no federal oversight of municipal fireworks beyond requiring importers to get permits from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. While commercial fireworks are inspected and tested by lot number, municipal fireworks aren't.
Although the council is still considering its future fireworks policy, it appears to be moving toward at least banning the cake-box-style fireworks and using smaller mortar tubes in the future.
"It'll affect the look of the show," admitted Parks and Recreation Director Cathy Salgado.
The shoot may also be moved to the much larger Nottoway Park, especially since construction at Vienna Elementary School next summer will further limit spectator space at Waters Field.

It takes a feeble mind to come up with a statement like Seeman, and only a strong leader would demand that safety come before everything else.
What if it were your wife or child?
“It kills me to have to move them from out of Vienna,” she said. “I've already heard from citizens: ‘You're not going to move them.'” When I heard that, I have made up my mind, we desperately need better leadership in Vienna.
Go back to Green Acres where you and your clan belong... and along the way, stop by the wizard and pick up a brain! you're a pathetic boob for brains who is clueless over important issues and have to be spoon fed to even remotely sound like you know what day it is. What happened, did Maud's grip on your puppet strings slip on that comment? I would be embarrassed to think those pitiful words came out of my pie hole. I better stop now before I type something that really lets you know how I feel... and it won't be nice.

Any public official that places anything above the public's safety is not deserving of remaining in office. We need to start thinking about whether we can impeach the Mayor. What is so difficult to understand about the Fairfax County Fire Department Battalion Chief Keith Johnson's statement - "It's my recommendation that you do not have this shoot in Vienna"? Afterall, he IS the EXPERT, not the Mayor, not the Town Council, and certainly not Cathy Salgado, the Town Green “EXPERT”!

I was there. I saw the misfire go into the crowd. Professional displays are usually safe, but misfires happen, and the crowd is a bit too close.
After seeing what happened on July 4, I would recommend coming up with a better plan for fireworks. Either move them or figure out a way to keep the crowd much farther away from them. That is the responsible thing to do.

Typical brainless politician: she knows that municipalities cannot be sued so she does whatever it takes to get re-elected next go around, forget about doing what is right and doing what a good leader would so, just whatever it takes to sit in the drivers seat one more go around. She's a pathetic xxx who's only real motive is her own dumb and blind ambition to sit next to Mad Maud and allow her to pull her strings, because she thinks she is good for Vienna.
What a poor excuse for an existence, they ought to be horsewhipped, for all the harm they've have caused this poor family!
Ohh, I would just die... Can you believe that? Does she really know what it takes to make good decisions, or is she a stupid moron?

Move them to Nottoway. We will all live through this. I swear.
Mayor, would you like me to help pick out your casket when this causes your death? I really think you may be *slightly* exaggerrating but I guess we won't know till we try.

“It kills me to have to move them from out of Vienna,”
Unfortunately, she doesnt take that statement literally lol. So in a way, maybe we should move them out of Vienna....haha. Okay, Im bad, I know.
I agree with Miss Thing, have the crowd a bit farther away. Unfortunately, as she said, misfires DO happen, and that wasnt the fault of anyone except the manufacturer. There were a few places that had similar incidents that used the same fireworks that Vienna did.
Ive lived here 16 out of 19 years of my life. Ive always enjoyed the Vienna fireworks. I think that is one of the few things I have actually liked about this town!

If the fireworks are moved outside of Vienna to Nottaway, do you think most town residents will still go? We are the ones footing the bill, right? Will we all be able to park at Nottaway? Many residents can walk to the community center. Most town residents will need to drive to Nottaway. Not saying they should continue at the community center, just asking some questions.
