George Creed: Poster Child for Vienna's Ineptness
A picture from the local rag with a smiling George Creed:

Cunningham Park Elementary School students cut the ribbon on the new stretch of sidewalk along McHenry Street, S.E. They are joined by Mayor M. Jane Seeman, Town Council member Edythe Kelleher, Sidewalk Subcommittee co-chairman George Creed and Manuel Sosa, president of Sagres Construction Corp. (Photo by Brian Trompeter)

Well, well. So George Creed, Mayor Jane, and Edythe Kelleher are celebrating the OPENING OF A SIDEWALK. So glad that they're concerned with children safely walking to school.
But wait, there are other children walking to Thoreau each morning. And they have to walk past and through groups of adult men at the Cedar Park Shopping Center each morning. Where is the Town's concern for these children?
Instead of patting themselves on the backs, they should receive swift kicks in the butts for NOT SECURING the sidewalks leading to Thoreau Intermediate.

This is what our society has been reduced to: the most minor "event" (translation: non-event) deserves a ribbon cutting and a newspaper photo op. We are talking about approximately one block of sidewalk. Yes, I am sure the neighbors are glad the town has finally built a sidewalk after 50 years but a RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY?! What about NW Vienna? If we get one block of sidewalk, is there going to be a parade?!
What are we teaching kids?! Pat yourself on the back and demand praise (and a picture) from others for simply doing your mundane job, even though it is too little, awfully late.
Next time my kid finishes his homework, I am marching him outside and demand the mayor show up for a ribbon cutting.

Is it really that special that there is a new sidewalk there?
How bout they stop celebrating over stupid crap like that and finish Beulah Rd?! Then all the people who have been inconvenienced over this damn project can celebrate. And not Jane and her loser friends since they did nothing but make things worse for this town.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for putting in a sidewalk?
This community must think we are living in poverty stricken post war europe for all this attention. WHat a laugh? It's no wonder Vienna is such poor shape, you have set your standards soooo low you expect incompetence as being greatness!
What a pathetic way to run a town.

The posters need to step up their thinking and put two and two together. Tom Davis gave the town an earmark of one hundred thousand dollars for sidewalks. Probably the money was really intended to replace the dead trees at the TG, however, Tom now has a picture to include in his election brochure showing the benefit of his offering. A charade it is but it is a cunning one.

Ribbon cutting has become popular in towns to celebrate little and large successes in town improvements. It's not just a Vienna thing. Residents in Silver Spring for instance have said it helped spread optimism and made people aware of the changes happening to downtown Silver Spring especially at the beginning of it's redevelopment.

Tom Davis = political dinosaur
If Tom Davis ever wants to be elected to public office again, he better get serious. The old crap will not work next time around. Northern Virginia is changed. Acting like Maud and Jane (except in our stupid Town elections) will not win a national seat anymore. Most 30-somethings I knew were laughing at Jeannemarie and she lost big time.

Uh, there is NOTHING happening in Vienna, so the optimism theory ain't applicable. Who in Vienna is getting optimistic over a ribbon cutting for adding 50 feet of sidewalk? Mental rejects? Dead people?
