“There wasn't anything wrong with the truck or driver, just an unfortunate set of circumstances...”
Nothing wrong? Obviously, I did not witness the accident, but I have to think that there is something wrong with a driver who fails to see a pedestrian during the morning rush hour--even if it is still dark.

This accident would not have happened if the pedestrian had simply crossed Maple Avenue via the pedestrian bridge.

Somewhere on this blog are comments on the stupidity of the government to tell pedestrians that they could blindly cross the street in a crosswalk. Very few people do not drive a vehicle and all who drive know that there are blind spots on the vehicles. Also all attention cannot be placed in all directions at the same time, therefore there is a laps in vision. The last person I saw struck was a lady crossing Park St, to enter the Safeway driveway. Obviously the driver trying to come out of the driveway was looking to the right for traffic. By the time he returned his sight to his left he struck the woman. Was she in his blind spot or was it a matter of timing? Pedestrians beware, the driver does not always see you.

I am imagining this scenario in my head and I just cannot figure out how he would NOT see this woman if she was walking within the crosswalk. I would like to know if he was sipping a morning coffee, fiddling with the radio or talking on a cell.
A distracted driver is the one who misses a pedestrian in a well marked crosswalk.

"Very few people do not drive a vehicle and all who drive know that there are blind spots on the vehicles."
The people that do not drive are the ones who vote in this town. The Blind spots you speek of are the blinders they seem to put on before they enter the polls.
"...there is a laps in vision."
In Vienna government, AMEN!!!
Is there any new blood out there that will help Vienna realize that we are in the 21st Century? Garden Clubs are nice, but they no longer belong at Town Hall.

leave it to Historic Vienna to somehow turn this accident into the town council's fault.

Posting Vienna's foolishness (no matter who creates it) is what this site is about. From town workers to town council members to town residents.
Bring it on, Vienna.
