"That's Amore" Out of Business
We have a nice new road in front of where "That's Amore" restaurant used to be. Operative term - used to be. When you have moronic politicians leading the way, politicians who have spent the better part of their careers railing against success and money making (regardless as to whether that actually helps the whole community or not), when you have lazy, freeloading contractors who seem to be on perpetual bath room breaks and when time to completion is no object, is it really a surprise this happened? Wasn't it just last week the Vienna Town Council members lined up like retarded sock puppets in front of That's Amore and did a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new road? Our real fear is that when Maud goes she really won't go. Like her hero she will live on.

It is pretty humorous (but it's not!) that every time the idiotic town politicians decide to bring more businesses to town by doing "improvements," they end up running out long-standing businesses. The brick sidewalks on Church Street and Maple Avenue killed MANY. And, the economic hub of Vienna? The town green which was created by tearing down active commercial.
Pathetic old boobs.

Look at the fine public/private partnerships that brought the empty lots on either side of the "new" Chevy Chase bank.

I GUESS THAT THE TC MEMBERS DON'T CARE A BIT IF THE MAJORITY OF THE TOWN BUDGET GETS SHIFTED FROM THE COMMERCIAL SECTOR TO THE HOMEOWNERS.

maybe they can tear down the shopping center & build another town green.

You people are so ready to blame everything on the Town. That's Amore is going out of business because they forgot what they are supposed to be - An Italian Restaurant. Who wants to go to an Italian Restaurant and here Middle-Eastern music? I quit going there because they insulted my heritage.

Is there anyone from the Town of Vienna team who can mount a non-racist defense of Maud blowing out That's Amore?

What is that about? I never heard that. It must be the voices in your head again. Go take your medicine!

Disgusted, you may be of middle eastern origin. Take for instance the fact that the City of Bologna, Italy, was established by the Turks of Asia Minor. Take pride in your diversity.

That's in no way racist. Part of enjoying a good meal is the atmosphere. Have you ever gone to a middle-eastern restaurant and heard Italian music? I guess that makes them racist by your definition. Get off your high horse. Everyone is so politically correct that you have become blind.

This may be the dumbest discussion yet on this site. Simple fact is that That's Amore had great food - I have gone there more than I can count over the years. They had amazing happy hour specials!
Yeah, so they would bring in some 'different' music on Saturday nights. Big whoop. Come to think of it, these postings sound a LOT like the rantings on the Red Hunter.
Town of Vienna did That's Amore no favors by ripping up Branch road for 10 months and "neglecting" to inform the businesses at Danor Plaza. Ask Stride Rite about when they were run out of town 5 years ago?

The food had steadily gone down hill when the chain brought in new owners. You just aren't paying attention. Ask yourself why the chain closed all of its restaurants in the area, except the two in Maryland(http://www.thatsamore.com/locations.html)?
It's the food, the lack of cleanliness, and the fact that they truly forgot who they were. It had nothing whatsoever to do with the unfortunate Branch Street affair! Go to any other ethnic restaurant or Italian restaurant in the area and you'll see a difference. I never defend the Town's leaders, but on this case your blame is grossly miss-placed.

Could the Branch Road debacle have been the straw that broke the camels back? It certainly did not help.

The mantra in this town is to blame the business. So what if we cut you off to your customers for 10 months with little or no warning. It's not our fault - your food is crappy.

No, it was everything but the Branch Road debacle. Maud and Company are not the source of everything that goes wrong. If the restaurant had been managed better and the food quality had not declined, we would have certainly continued. However, the whole experience of eating there changed dramatically, including my original point. We walked to the restaurant so the Branch Road construction was irrelevant, and if anyone wanted to eat there it was not that difficult to get into the parking lot. I've never seen such nonsense. Blaming the restaurant's demise on the Town is ridiculous. Maybe, competition had something to do with it too - who knows?

To state that the Branch Road debacle did not affect those businesses is inane. To state that the Town of Vienna managed the situation with skill is true comedy. You don't sound like you truly understand what powers these people have and how they use those powers. Could "That's Amore" have been on the decline? Sure, nothing lasts forever. But look around. These fools on Town Council have a track record that extends across all businesses. It is a track record designed to harm and injure business. This was one example. Wake up.

HV your arguments and those of others make no sense. Why have all the That's Amore Restaurants in VA closed? The others had no Branch Road construction. It's the food - stupid!
Posted by: Amazing | March 19, 2008 08:47 AM
Your facts are wrong. You also ignored the larger issue in play - a moronic VTC making decisions regarding all businesses in Vienna. Repeat: wake up.

In this case, HV, you seem to be out on a limb with your Maud-lin crusade. Most times you are pretty close to the mark. But not this time. Last week, I spoke to Norm @ Norm's Beer and Wine about this. According to Norm, no one from the ToV proper approached the business owners directly. However, the ToV DID contact the management company for that worst-parking-lot-in-Vienna mall some months prior to beginning work on Branch Rd. That's following protocol. Apparently, only a few of the business owners got word of a meeting with the management company to discuss. According to Norm, it (the meeting with the management company) was "poorly attended", as most businesses did not know about the meeting prior to it's being held. That's the fault of the management company. 'That's Amore's are failing everywhere, not just the one in Vienna. And I'm wide awake, thanks for asking. And their food was crappy. That's why the company is folding. And if you wouldn't mind letting 'vienna mommy' know, access was somewhat restricted for a while, but no access was cut off. I made it to Norm's and Blockbuster every time I went. And that parking lot is still a load of crap, even though it was just repaved (again) a few years ago. But hey, you build a parking lot on what was, effectively, a swamp, it ain't gonna last long. They're working on it again now.
