Does anyone know the status of the empty commercial lots on either side of Chevy Chase Bank near the intersection of Maple Avenue and Glyndon?

No, but the corner of Nutley and Maple Ave where the Coldwell Banker Office is located, was purchased by Chase Bank. Great planning Maud, we now get another bank.

Maybe that is a good thing. Perhaps Chevy Chase will re-locate and all three of those parcels can be redeveloped together. Hopefully into something that does not include a bank!
