Jane Seeman: Momma Red Hunter on Maple Avenue
From the Connection live and in charge comes Momma Red Hunter:
[...Jane] Seeman is looking at the future of Maple Avenue, the Town's primary traffic route and corridor of business. "The Town Council needs to come up with plans for Maple Avenue enhancement and improvements. What do we need to do to make it better?" The Town Council has been working on the Town's water issues, and Seeman expects resolution soon. Seeman sees the Cedar Park shopping center and Cedar Lane apartments as an opportunity to try to bring that community closer into the Vienna community. "I am aware that some residents of that area have expressed concerns about the shopping center there and the apartments. The police have been doing a great job at the shopping center, getting cooperation from the shop owners and the people who live around there. "I'm willing to meet with people who have concerns." Seeman filled out her husband's term on Town Council after his death in 1996. She's lived in Vienna for 40 years, and is guardian to a cat and a rescued indoor rabbit, both of whom get along just fine.
We guess Seeman misplaced the Maple Avenue Vision Committee Report that she commissioned? It used to be that if someone lied you called them a liar. Now you have be more sensitive. What's really amazing about Seeman is that she uses "words" in "sentences" that literally say nothing and mean nothing.

"Mom, what is a dedicated Cold Warrior?"

Comments
Yeah, and I guess that she and the rest of the TC misplaced my email last week about the shopping center, because nobody responded.

A favorite line from Tom Seeman's bio:
It's not that we are picking on him being a Republican, but rather because he sounds like the typical cult follower...whether part of a compound in Texas or Louis Farrakhan's group in Chicago...all the same mentality.

What does Tom Seeman\'s bio have to do with this?
It sounds to me like input is being invited. I guess that same help was provided in 2002-2005, according to this site, but it seems that it\'s being requested again. So why not give your input? It\'s one of your biggest gripes, right (the Maple Avenue corridor)?
Also, it sounds like the Patrick Street brigade is being acknowledged. Just because an email isn\'t returned doesn\'t mean that it hasn\'t been read or had any impact. Why not use this as a springboard to go to meetings and get vocal in the appropriate venue(s)?
As frustrating as it can be to have herculean efforts ignored/set aside (the 2002-2005 work of the Vision Committee), isn\'t the old adage, \"Try, Try again.\" If it\'s ignored again, who\'s to blame? Not those who tried to provide the help, surely ...
It just seems to me that rather than using this as another piece of kindling to burn more effigies, you could say, \"Okay. Here you go.\" And if the invitation is rebuffed again, doesn\'t that speak volumes in the loudest possible way?
It seems to me that \"you\" are in a win-win situation here. Don\'t blow it by blowing it off ...
Just my opinion.

Fool me once...come on wake up and get real.
How much of this website have you read? You sound like Pollyanna. Keep reading...Tom's relevance is right there staring back at you.

Jane Seeman is an idiot. I hate to trash the dead, but damn. Why did Tom marry this crazy woman?
Speaking of cults, her rambles make about as much sense as 38 people killing themselves to catch the UFO behind Hale-Bopp...(Heaven's Gate anyone?)
I recall something about her son having a blog and popping in over here every once in a while. If thats so, he probably lurks around the board and cries to his mama when bad things are said about "their" town. Thats probably the only way she knows about people expressing themselves about things. Other than that, her head and mind are up in said spaceship.

Speak up maybe you are new, but people have tried and tried to talk intelligently to this Mayor and TC. The problem is that it falls on deaf ears. If you do not agree with their limited insight than you are immediately viewed as a trouble maker.

This is horrible! Why can't someone run against this dolt? Pull up the papers from past elections..same things. Is this Town made up of followers who really believe this? Maple Ave? Water? Have we not all heard this EVERY year? Do you people buy this? The voters are brain numbed to the propaganda and will follow blindly. Why because she was your preschool teacher? She has a cat and a rabbit? Give me a break.

We should be careful what we wish for. Do you remember Maud’s “Identity Theft” essay several months back? She does not want Maple Ave. to look like Clarendon, Fairfax City, or Falls Church. She wants it to stay the way it is. That is why we have a main street that looks like Lee Highway in Arlington or Little River Turnpike in Annandale.
The Town Green is a great example of Maud’s aesthetic. At best, it is just lipstick on a pig. The D.C. area is blessed with numerous attractive and poignant memorials and monuments. There was no need for one here, but TC went ahead and erected a thoroughly insipid one. Why was an amphitheater needed next to Maple Ave.? It could have been put in an existing park. For instance, there are locations around the Community Center (e.g., where the gazebo is located) that would have worked.
People who thought that this plan for the Town Green was a good idea have no business having any control over future development of Maple Ave. Voters need to realize that one can maintain the desirable aspects of Vienna (including high property values) while also having an attractive and vibrant main street.
By the way, HV, I note that many promising threads (e.g., the ones about new construction on Maple Ave.) end up getting lost in the shuffle as new topics are posted. Is there any chance of listing topics by most recent posting?

I rode by the Town Green two times today - at 10:30am and 12pm - and it was completely empty. A beautiful, 80 degree Saturday afternoon and not ONE person on the Town Green.
Seriously, not even a tired biker resting? What a waste of money.

What to do with Maple Ave. Per Dept of the Interior Pub of sever yers ago, 50 lbs of unprilled amonium nitrate, 1 gat desel fuel, 1/2 stick of Dupont's finest and a plastic bag would be a start as to what to do.

Why vote in Town of Vienna Elections. There is no choice. To vote just to meet your responsibilibites as a citizen implys acceptance of the way things are being run. For me this is far fram the case, and for the first time in over thirty years, I am not voting on May 6.
