See This Orange? It Is Really An Apple.
From the Town of Vienna web site:
Visitors will enjoy the hometown atmosphere of Maple Avenue (Rt. 123) bustling with specialty shops, numerous restaurants, family run businesses and stores. Take a stroll down treelined Historic Church Street, or take a leisurely drive through Vienna's Historic District, including Windover Avenue via Pleasant Street. Visit Freeman House and Museum, originally a residence / general store built in 1859, or walk across the street to Centennial Park, home to an old restored W&OD caboose and bordered by the scenic Washington and Old Dominion Regional Park Trail. There is something for everyone so...come visit, shop and stay for awhile. The Town of Vienna welcomes you.
Is there anyone, other than the Town of Vienna Government shill who wrote the copy above, who believes Maple Avenue in Vienna gives off a "hometown atmosphere"? It is a traffic filled nightmare almost 24 hours a day. How does a sane person stuck in gridlock, staring at 1970s cinder block architecture, much of which is empty, wax nostalgic about "hometowns"?

That's why I am starting to spend all my weekends out of town... and after speaking to one of the areas leading financial institution leaders who had started to advise his elderly clients 1-2 years ago to sell their rundown ramblers for the $900,000 and buy elsewhere to be able to enjoy a wonderful retirement, only to realize that their once was nest egg windfall is now the market prices of only 500K, they are now the bitter octogenarians that cannot afford their meds, their gas, their heat, their groceries, and yes, their Viagra.
So put all your money in Maud, whose plans are to keep the old schleps in poors-ville.
If the town was allowed to grow and prosper, and taxes were allowed to settle and drop, the elderly would not be in the predicament they are in.
So, your votes bought you this. A dead Vienna. Maud really doesn't know what the hell a town needs to survive, even if she really thinks she does. Arrogance and stupid pride is no substitute for the answers we need to keep Vienna strong and prosperous.
Votes do count, but when the same corrupt idiots keep their seats, nothing good comes from this form of incestuous government.
Does Seeman have any hand in this? She's too stupid to realize she has no role in this other than to pretend she leading and not just a pawn of the corrupt and inept robinson-cole-lovelace front. LET THEM SPEND AND WASTE YOU TAX DOLLARS, AND WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT? NOTHING!

Reading this reminds of the time the Atlantic City NJ government complained that visitors came to the casinos but never visited Atlantic Avenue. Taking the challenge I walked the entire street. What a joke, crappy stores and most of them closed and nothing that would interest a visitor. There was one bar on a corner that was tempting, but why when drinks at the casinos were free. NISM

A resident of Vienna provided this summary in the Fairfax Extra section of today's Washington Post:
"Residents of Vienna know that just beyond busy Maple Avenue (Route 123) is a vibrant town that is pedestrian-friendly. There are many destinations to walk to in Vienna:
· A Town Green that offers free entertainment in the summer and even has water fountains for dogs.
· A plethora of well-equipped playgrounds. Families come from all points to enjoy the shade, playground equipment and sandbox stocked with toys at Meadow Lane Park.
· Home-decorating shops. My favorite is Stuff, with a mix of unpretentious antiques and old jewelry.
· The Vienna Dog Park, which always yields a buddy for our golden retriever, even if it is likely to be another dog owner willing to give her tons of pats.
· A choice of four ice cream shops.
Every Thomas the Tank Engine fan should visit the Vienna Railroad Station to see the HO-scale model railroad. Once a month, the Northern Virginia Model Railroaders open the station. They will punch your child's ticket with his or her birth date, free."

Be careful of Town employees early in the morning. They might run you over as you cross the road in a well marked cross walk. Ditto for bike riding.

Ah, is that the reason they are giving for the leaking water fountain? It's meant for dogs? I have never, ever spotted dogs getting a drink there.
A plethora of well-equipped playgrounds. Families come from all points to enjoy the shade, playground equipment and sandbox stocked with toys at Meadow Lane Park.
Except for 2 year olds and their moms, know one else could care in the least.
Home-decorating shops. My favorite is Stuff, with a mix of unpretentious antiques and old jewelry.
Stuff is closed. Trifles and Treasures is closed. Coffee Caboodle is closed. Artful Gifts is closed. Brambled Nest is closed. Posh is closing. Need I go on?
The Vienna Dog Park, which always yields a buddy for our golden retriever, even if it is likely to be another dog owner willing to give her tons of pats.
Yes, a dog park is truly what binds us as a community.
A choice of four ice cream shops.
Seriously, FOUR ice cream stores? Looking at the size of our TC and Mayor's waistbands, I think they actually may have a hand in this.

WAY too crowded. Strasburg is worth the trip.

"Thanks," that is the best post of the year. It merits a thread of its own.

I see it as a plum. You know the kind, the dried one. Used to be called a PRUNE.
