Hiding Behind Mommy Maud
In attempt to get a copy of Laine Hyde's report to the Police during the Walk on the Hill, this message was received from the Town of Vienna:
"In response to your request, please be advised that these records are exempt from disclosure under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, Section 2.2-3706, Subsection F 1, and therefore will not be released."
Hiding is what Vienna officials do best.

Guess which Council member I am?

I do find it rather lame that no one appears to have any other "job" other than being on Town Council (except Mike).

Did anyone happen to catch the names of the officers who came? I will be in town in a few days, so I can see what I can find out.

Is it illegal to take pictures at a public event in Vienna?
A friend of mine (in another town, in another DC burb) has a rather crazy neighbor she has had some disagreement with, but never anything to call the police over. He's acted crazy toward her, not vice versa. He rants and raves over nothing. Once, he did call the police on her. And the police came. The officers talked to him, talked to her, shook their heads, apologized to her for waking her and her family up (it was crazy early on a Saturday), and then went back over to the neighbor's house and told him he was never to call them again unless there was something illegal or dangerous going on.
It literally had something to do with berries falling off her tree into his grass. The guy told her he didn't like the berries the day before when she was outside. She knew he was nuts, so she arranged to get the tree pruned the next business day, trying to avoid an encounter with a person who flies off the handle. He allegedly called 911 and somehow convinced the police something terrible was happening at her house. But it was over a couple berries. Crazy stuff. Fortunately, the police were very stern with him. They were also rather loud while they lectured him, as a couple other neighbors managed to notice. He never called the police like that again.

What is the most disturbing is that Kelleher is the only one who is vienna.gov. Why do the other three not have the same address? Janehome?? How quaint-blah! Seriously though do they do this to hide e-mails, claiming that they are private.
This is incompetent at best corrupt at worst!

"The Internet" perhaps you have found a newly updated page...and this site is doing its job. For it has been common knowledge that these emails get forwarded to Council member's homes...thereby forever destroying records. Where do those emails go? Are they forwards like before?
Posted by: HV | May 4, 2008 09:22 PM
"The internet" I think this makes my point exactly! There should be one e-mail for official business. So I stand by my statement that this is incompetence at best corrupt at worst! And by defending this it seems more to be the latter.

HV:
I have no idea re: your questions about the email. I just couldn\'t believe that a random council member (Kelleher) would have an \"official\" email address, but that the others wouldn\'t. So I went to check and found that link.
Al Gore did not give me the tools to discern the intent of my users, unfortunately. :(

Ummm, all of the links on the the town website have viennava.gov domains. They may be forwarded, but they are going to the town's e-mail server first.

So those e-mails are probably what the the reporter was given by the candidates, rather than what they found on the website.
What I want to know, is why were there campaign signs cluttering up Vienna in a completely uncontested election?

Doesn't feel very green (or attractive) to me.
I think Jane and gang just like seeing their names in neon lights, er, campaign signs all over town. Rather pompous/idiotic if you ask me.

Some of the candidates did not even get their neighbor's support for signage. Patrick street/Cir was vacant of Polychrones' signs and he even lives there. I agree why advertise when uncontested, except to feed their egos as mentioned earlier.
