Town Green Fountain
This site is no fan of the Town Green or the fountain installed there. But now that they have fixed the fountain has anyone observed the end result? Clearly, the fix has created a fountain operation never intended. It was bad to begin with, but now the water flow is messed up even more. Sure, it doesn't leak now, but look at it!

The black TG fountain next to Maple Avenue that was leaking last year. Look how they "fixed" it. The water doesn't roll over the edge of the fountain now.

Please let TC believe that the fountain is perfect. For that matter, let them believe that the entire Town Green is perfect. Let's not throw good money after bad trying to make it right.

You mean it\'s not hitting the ground?
It looked this weekend like it was rolling over and hitting the ground. In fact, I thought at first that it wasn\'t fixed, because the pavers around it were all wet ... then I realized that it wasn\'t spreading, it was just from the splashing. But at least the splash was contained to a few pavers out.
Anyway, it looked like it was falling over the edge of the fountain?

(Is it possible to start a new thread? I'm not sure how to do this?)
I'm interested in hearing if anyone in Vienna specifically has comments on the huge amount of development being proposed in Tysons. What do people in Vienna think about the images and quotes from the Washington Post article today?

Does anyone know how much the town (i.e. us taxpayers) is (are) paying for the water wasted at the town brown fountain?
Edith, why don't you stop sitting on your a%% and act on your promise to get the water costs down, or are you just another typical lying politician who will just about say and do anything to get re-elected and do nothing but sit by until the next go around. I don't expect an answer or responce from you, your lack of action will be your legacy when you wish to run for higher office, and your chickens will come home to roost.

That fountain sure seems like an expensive (and not very green) waste of water.
On another note, anyone see the Washington Post article (page A1) talking about the Tyson's redesign. Much, much discussion about making it a walking, green community. Very exciting and forward thinking compared to Vienna. Vienna is brown and looking backwards.

As some of you might have guessed, I think the Tysons proposal is a good one. Tysons is currently a world-class nightmare, the textbook case of suburban sprawl and traffic. The plan will turn it into a pedestrian-oriented urban place, which--if they can pull it off--and it's a big "if"--will make transit more viable and enable people to walk from one place to another, such as from the office to lunch, or from a movie to a restaurant. right now this is not really an option. all of these changes will make the area more livable, enjoyable, and financially viable over the long term. that said, it will be extremely difficult and expensive, and will take decades for this to happen.
I believe the owners of Tysons Corner Mall are onboard to make their part of it happen. But getting the rest of the land owners to move will, as i said, take decades. For many of them, it will mean tearing down what now exists to rebuild in a more urban pattern. For some, the economics will work, but for others it won't. Without such a plan, Tysons is well on its way to becoming a white elephant in which the office and retail will become obsolete. Increasingly, workers and business owners prefer to be in mixed-use districts like downtowns or places like Reston Town center. Keeping the status quo in Tysons would ultimately end its usefulness, and along with it, residential communities like McLean and Vienna would lose their value, since so much of the value lies in nearness to good jobs and amenities.

I guess Vienna will become Tysons barrio...

Vienna is becoming everyone's dumping ground. The truth is that Vienna has no character. It is and always will be "hick Vienna." Maybe this would change if there was to be a change in the Mayor and TC. On second thought I do not believe it would since these are only positions of power, and not leadership.
There is no thought for the betterment of the community. The only way Vienna will change is to let Fairfax lead! That way maybe the people developing Tyson's may listen to us, because at this point they are not.

Que Sera Sera
Again, don't confuse the fact that these corrupt politicians keep their seats with what the electorate really wants, or just voter apathy... we won't have lifesaving changes in Vienna until Maud is indicted or dies. And that goes for the rest of her Maudites.
Vienna will be a slum barrio of Tyson until we have real leaders with vision and courage enough to stand on conviction.
Until then, Que Sera Sera...
