Vienna, Meet Your Neighbor.
For this special occasion, a song ...
It's a beautiful day in this neighborhood
A beautiful day for a neighbor
Would you be mine
Could you be mine
It's a neighborly day in this beauty wood
A neighborly day for a beauty
Would you be mine
Could you be mineI've always wanted to have a neighbor just like you
I've always wanted to live in a neighborhood with youSo, let's make the most of this beautiful day
Since we're together we might as well say
Would you be mine, could you be mine
Won't you be my neighbor
Won't you please, won't you please
Please won't you be my neighbor
Thank you, Mr. Rogers, we could not have said it any better.

Oh, he's just one of those soccer players the police told us not to worry about.

So what do we do? We keep getting our requests ignored, Wait till the next election?

From the VPD press release:
"The Vienna Police believe this is an isolated act of violence."
Umm, what about all of the other stabbings and "malicious woundings" that have happened at the Cedar Park Shopping Center and Vienna Park Apartments over the last year?

I am a white male and have not an ounce of latino in my blood. However I think we ought to stop attacking this as a racial issue. This is a class issue of poor uneducated, young kids lacking guidance and doing dumb dumb things. Yes, the lower income of Vienna happen to be Latino but let's be smart and not turn our frustrations into a race issue. I never did anything like this, i.e. a stabbing, but trust me when I was 19 or 20 I was a floundering knucklehead loaded up with frustration. That frustration sooner or later manifests itself. That being said, our 'leaders' need to address a growing problem.

Vienna1
How do I begin to debate someone who does not have a clue?
Go to past posts and do some reading, then place a comment, of course this isn't all about race it's about the DO NOTHING TOWN COUNCIL" and believe me THEY are no "leaders".
Posted by: truth or dare | July 29, 2008 04:50 PM
dumb dumb things??? Oh my.
Posted by: sick of it | July 30, 2008 11:05 AM
Stabbing someone is not a "dumb dumb thing" that you "do," Vienna1. It is a malicious, criminal act.
I don't see too many people arguing this as a racial issue. I believe - correct me if I am wrong - that the victim is also a Latino.
I keep wondering if the victim of this crime is improving? How's his family doing? It's all been very quiet.
Frankly, I don't see what Vienna1 calls a "poor, uneducated kid." I don't know that he's poor. I know that he's not a kid. He's a man. A man who decided to stab another man. Well, that's not misdirection. That's pure evil.
There is no excuse for crime unless we are talking "Les Miserables" hungry guy stealing a loaf of bread, perhaps? Most of us would probably give him the loaf if we had it. So it's not a case of "let's pity the poor, hungry little criminal." The guy in the mug shot looks well fed to me.
This is just a guy stabbing someone. Sick. Twisted. Wrong.
Got it, Vienna1?
No excuse for it.
I'm amazed at how little in the media. Thanks for covering this story, HV. When I saw the police tape, I knew to look at your page because you would have the story.
Remember the victim in this, who apparently got an unwanted trip to the ICU. I hope and pray he gets better. As to the guy who stabbed him, I hope and pray that during his likely long sentence that he takes advantage of any training programs available to him in jail, and emerges a truly functioning member of society.

I think it's very telling what was NOT in the story that appeared in Vienna's spoon-fed "community" newspaper, The Sun Gazette:
A) The victim and the suspect are both Hispanic;
B) The name and a photograph of the suspect (especially important considering that his victim was almost killed);
C) Where in Vienna the suspect lived; and
D) The citizenship status of the suspect.

So, everyone is so quick to condemn this kid as the bad guy. Care to share what happened with us?
Posted by: The Internet | August 1, 2008 10:45 PM
I'm guessing "The Internet" doesn't read the Internet, a newspaper, or even watch tv.
This 21 year old "kid" from Vienna stabbed a Vienna Inn worker in the neck last week and almost killed him.

I think what is being asked is whether the 21 year old suspect had reasonable cause, or even a somewhat understandable reason, for stabbing the other person.
Had the victim stolen money or something else of value from the assailant?
Did the victim and assailant know each other prior to the assault?
Was there illegal activity going on (aside from the possible immigration status of the victim and assailant?)
While I disagree with 'The Internet' in exonerating the victim, I think there may be stuff that has not yet surfaced that portrays both parties negatively.

Brilliant guess, Leah! Particularly given that we\'re having this discussion on the internet!!
Now, since I don\'t read the internet (but somehow post on an internet blog), a newspaper, or even watch tv, but you apparently do, and know what happened at The Inn that morning, please do tell!
Why was the employee there at that time of the night/morning? Why was the suspect there? What precipitated the attack? Were there signs of forced entry into the establishment? Was anything stolen? Was the employee robbed?

"The Internet" how about you get off your high horse and give MPO Bill Murray a call at 703-255-6396 or email him at wmurray@viennava.gov and see what he has to say?

Internet
What's with the pot stirring?
Are you here to test our knowledge, or are you just lazy and want your info spoon fed?
Or maybe the third question is, are you trying to make the point, that the Vienna PD never looked into the crime or have the ability to do crime investigations?
Leah- Your too kind, I would have said "Get off your lazy a**.
Good Day!

Very simple answer: night clean up guy was stabbed taking out garbage at 3am. Not an usual activity for a restaurant - very late closing up hours.
Did these two men know each other prior to this stabbing? Was there a burglary? Not sure how we would be privy to this information since we are not investigating this crime.
The assailant was arrested very quickly after the crime. I have a hunch lots of things are going on here. There is a nasty side of Vienna and it has now found its way into the Vienna Inn, the most sacred of all institutions in this town.

truth or dare:
You are right: \"pot stirring\" has no place on this blog. What was I thinking?
The RUMOR I\'ve heard (not from anyone employed by or connected with the town, though, so you have to take it with a huge grain of salt) is that this may have been self defense or something like it. Some of the people on this blog seem to be connected to \"sources\" at the town, so I\'m sure if you dig a little, you could find out the \"real story\" for us.

Internet:
My odds are on the MS13 gang at the "Park Apt's".
But, maybe you can tell us since you seem to know so much more from your\"Rumor"\.
Posted by: truth or dare | August 3, 2008 09:48 PM
Maybe (since there is all this speculation and rumor mongering) we should be concerned with the Islamic Heritage Center @ Cedar-Park Shopping Center. Maybe the 'heritage center' is cultivating Vienna's own version of Jose Padilla. "The Day Laborers" strike back......
Posted by: Dan | August 5, 2008 10:46 AM
Dan:
Please clarify, do you mean you believe the "day labor's" want the Islamic Heritage Center at the shopping center as a form of getting even?
