Seriously, Who Can You Believe?

Greg Hembree on September 9, 2008 in an article by Donna Manz, The Connection:

Hembree says Trader Joe’s grocery stores have approached the Town, as had a major national drug store chain. "We’re always looking for good quality businesses to make a home in Vienna."

Greg Hembree on November 25, 2008 in another article by Manz:

"They’re going with bigger stores with gas stations, like the one on Nutley," said Hembree.

Walgreen’s bought the Safeway property and is taking over the location there. Trader Joe’s did not approach the Town about that property, nor did Safeway consider building up. Negotiations for the property sale were between Safeway and Walgreen’s, town officials said.

Does this mean that Hembree is only answering that Trader Joe's did not approach the Town about the Safeway location? Did TJ approach the Town about the That's Amore location? Or, did TJ never approach the town?

Is this lying or shotty reporting or both?

Comments

Both.

Wait. Did you mean "sh&tty" or "shoddy" reporting? It's still both.

The new story floating is Greg Hembree misspoke when he said "Trader Joe's." What Greg meant to say was "Fresh Market."

This story constantly is rewritten. I hope this exercise in "speaking up" shows everyone how the town operates - through fear and lies.

When you all send more emails to Jane asking her to "clear up" the Trader Joe's stories, ask her point blank why the Maple Avenue Vision was killed. Ask her why the height limit is 35 feet and not 55 feet. Ask her why we do not have form based code.

You all throw her the softball questions and she tosses back piles of poop. Ask the right questions and you'll get no response (or just bigger, fatter lies).

Reading the connection article I wonder why Safeway who did not have contact with the Town would have someone from their organization call the Mayor of Vienna to tell her they are closing the Vienna store? Green Hedges spent much time and money for expansion plans which violated their agreements with the Town. They had to have had some pre-approval to go so far. If Safeway knew the Town was not receptive to their remodeling, then why would they submit any proposals? Just thinking out loud.

The story about the Mayor of Vienna refusing to let Trader Joe's move into That's Amore's spot is UNTRUE. XXXX lives on the Mayor's street
and is friends with her. She called her last night and the Mayor said that Trader Joe's looked at the spot but never contacted the owners again. Apparently this rumor is all over town and she has been getting angry phone calls for weeks. She did say that another food store was moving into that space but she couldn't say which one. More info is on the town of Vienna web site.

Last we heard Trader Joe's never approached the town. But, now, the mayor is saying they approached the owners of the property. Obviously, someone was talking to Trader Joe's.

This veil of secrecy is wearing thin with the voters. Open up Vienna's government and there will be a lot less rumors and angry mobs.
