I mean, there are a lot of people who have been in the sidelines that I may or may not have agreed with part of the time, even past people who have run and lost, again, I may agree with them or I may disagree with them, but they at least have some ounce of gray cells that would greatly enhance Vienna's prospects of growing into this century, and what to we get, a major brown noser, who has got his **** so far up ***** ***, that he thinks **** ****** good. I guess that's par for the course, Vienna will always sink to negativity and this whole thing stinks to high heaven!

Howard, your best move will be to decline this, but knowing how government workers soon learn to love the abuse or power gratification, because god know's you are basically a glorified Gomer Pyle, you will, continue to the killing fields in Vienna.

here's where this website (which I love, btw) fails. Instead of complaining, people who've been posting here need to run for city council & beat this guy. I know, I know.. It's very hard to beat the machine. But it can be done. It must be done. Let's arrange a meet up, form a committee & pick a good solid candidate who can actually win. People have run, and I guess you haven't heard, even Mayor Jane Seeman bragged about having a lady called Rhoda Stevens, was allowed to force older voters to change there votes from Brehoney and Stich to the incumbents. There is even a tape recording that Rhoda states she was told by someone to sit in the back near the voting machines and when she saw people voting for Stich and Brehoney, Rhoda was told to reach over and change their votes. Rhoda Stevens even admitted this on tape, and Jane Seeman bragged about how she knew it was a problem the previous election, yet she did not think it necessary to do anything about it. YOU CALL THAT LEGAL?

I don't. That's is what we are up against. When these problems were pushed up to the VA Board of Elections, they recommended that we keep quite, sweep this under the rug, and do nothing. A call was made to the Vienna Chief of Police about this, and he refused to get involved. The State Police was called, they refered us to the VA board of elections, and Devolites Davis went in and she said whe was going to have Rhoda Stevens removed about 1:30pm... but guess what, she was allowed to stay there until the end of the voting day, so, do you really think the Vienna Voting machine is fair?

I do not. I still think the DOJ should investigate this town, because why else would people fight so hard to keep from getting un-seated? There must be fire somewhere, because I see a lot of smoke here, and nobody seems to give a damn about getting the corrupt sots out of office.

And, guess what, Howard Springsteen is a member of this same corrupt crowd that has fought so hard to keep good people out of Vienna politics. There is not a one of them that has any decency to admit they are up there with the whim of Maud and Maud only. They are all equipped to sit back and let the corruption, and the petty nepotism, and back room deals continue to dominate the direction of the Vienna Political Machine.

I know Vienna Politicians and Leaders ignore laws and morality whenever it suits them. So will Howard Springsteen quit his job when he selected as our next councilman? Any simpleton can see that there is a clear and obvious conflict of interest in his job and responsibilities with Fairfax County and his responsibilities and authority with being a councilperson in the Town of Vienna.

So, if appointment, he must quit, else, I suspect Vienna will face yet another lawsuit or maybe we can get the services of some Governmental Watchdog group to intervene.

Does Maud think she can get away with this? And what about Mayor Boob Seeman? Why, she doesn't have enough sense to know when she's breaking the law, in fact, she even brags about how she got a major contractor/builder (Bukont) getting favors from the Town of Vienna, to build, for free, her bookshelves and renovations in her house. And, we citizens just sit back and watch them get away with this behavior!

We need better leadership in Vienna, and we must not sit back and let the next ill-conceived hair-brain anointed member of their corrupt little dynasty to sit in Council to puppet the same old behavior. Howard Springsteen is a fool, and has no leadership qualifications, and couldn't lead a thirsty band of one to a water hole in the middle of waterfall. Has anyone investigated his finances? his past? his schooling? has he committed any crimes? Has anyone else been considered for this position, and why Howard over them?

Is he being anointed to keep something quiet? Is he black-mailing any one in the Town? Where can we find the answers to these questions? Has he been vetted? by whom?

Does Maud think Howard will make a better lightning rod to the plethora of problems that seem to plague Vienna's Politics and backroom dealings? What are his reasons to sit in the sit?

Can he think he can sit and that seat and pretend not to have any influence with his position in his job? Has Vienna politics sunk to a new low to think they can hide these facts from law abiding citizens of the Town of Vienna?

Howard, I know you are reading this, please post your answers regarding these legitimate concerns.

The Northeast Vienna Citizens Association continues to have far better leadership than the Town of Vienna. Just compare Jane Seeman's resume to that of Dan Mulville.

Anne - You talk about "working like hell for our candidate" but do you even work or live in the Town of Vienna? Unless you actually live here and vote in the town elections, you cannot possibly know what it is like for those of us who do. Vienna is definately a unique animal.

Well, Mulville is a smart guy, had a career. Seeman handed out library cards for a living and her Town Council husband sold batteries at Radio Shack. Vienna's leadership has been filled with that kind of accomplishment.

Yes Seeman worked at Radio Shack but it was a second job. He also worked for the federal government. As for the Mayor she too has an education and had a career. Her work at the library is on a volunteer basis.

Oh, I've seen Howard in person. He was a complete lunatic on election day, 2007. That's when he verbally harrassed and threatened folks who were handing out Susan Stich's materials at the Community Center polling place. It was scary as heck to have him screaming and cussing, about a foot from my face. He let us know that we had no business challenging Maud and that we were going to "get ours."

Then he entered the polling place and actively campaigned for Maud, while he maligned Susie. All illegal, but not surprising considering all of the election fraud that went down that day.

Citizen of the Year in Vienna means you bury your head in the sand and act as lemmings to all the inane and back room dealings that the present lot of council take. It means you don't think for yourself, and blindly accept the party line even if it means good people get hurt, and bad people triumph. It means you do as your told, and if that includes tattling on your neighbors over matters that are trivial, so that others may ridicule or gain favor, you gain the favor of the corrupt leadership in Vienna, and you get your prize of being adored as "Citizen of the Year"... what a joke, you do what everyone is supposed to do as a citizen, and people like Howard get recognition for just being average.

In My Book Citizen of the Year would be the pilot that saved on those people when his planed had to crash land in the Hudson River, now there's something we can be proud of.

What has Howard Springsteen done? Button his shirt correctly, refrained from soiling his underwear, and keeps quite regarding all the corruption that prevails in Vienna Political Leaders.

It is all worse than even being described. Let me put it bluntly: Howard Springsteen is a loser. He could be a political cousin to the Governor of Illinois, that's how slimy his politics and actions are. Sadly, while Vienna has new families arriving daily, they are saddled with a corrupt political machine that is so arrogant and cavalier that they think they can get away with appointing one of the most pathetic cronies ever seen in Vienna to TC. Seriously, it is hard to top Laine Hyde, but Springsteen is right there racing Hyde to those bright red puckered lips of the Maudasaurus. I am too harsh? Tough. Vienna politics is disgusting and someone needs to call it like it is.

Howard Springsteen kept up these illegal shenanigans up until someone asked him whether, as a county employee, he was allowed to do what he was doing... then a small flicker of thought entered his neurological synapses and he finally ceased what he was doing; great, only after a threat from someone who would ensure he would see the inside of a jail room, did he start to act in an ethical and legal way. Just goes to show you, he's cut out of the same cloth as these bums running the place now, and he will continue with the same nepotistic and corrupt country-club antics.

He might be a great guy, but if he's more of the same, is he really what we need? I want to see a plan for the Maple Avenue corridor more than anything else this next year and I don't think I'm alone. If Howard isn't passionate about working on a new plan for Maple Avenue, I certainly won't vote for him. I don't even care what someone running thinks would be a good change for Maple Avenue as long as they promise to work hard on it through a public process taking into consideration what the public wants and what any consultant thinks would be best for Maple Avenue and not giving up like the past councils have done (and not like Tysons where they took the public and consultant's comments and then threw them out the window and made their own decision).

I can't believe that with the poor turnout of past elections even for the incumbants that there is no way to beat either Dan Delinger and George Lovelace who haven't done anything on this the past years they've been in office, or Howard Springsteen who has the same stance as Maud and doesn't support any change. Maybe a poll could be set up here to see how many people will vote in support of change for Maple Avenue and then if there is a high number of people in support, someone here may get enough courage to run for a council position.

I'm afraid we'll be seeing a lot of agenda's like the one below if this guy and the current incumbants get re-elected.
