Magruders Update
Magruders posted today that the rumor that their lease is up is wrong:
I am one of the owners of Magruders. Whoever started this rumor should apologize to all of our employees and call me at 301-230-3000 ext 305 and tell me where they got this information. This is absolutly not true. Magruders has a number of years left on our lease and our store employees take great pride in operating a first class grocery store. The building maybe old but our store is not dirty. It is tough enough operating any business in today's envirnment but for someone to start such a damaging rumor is uncalled for. Thank you for letting us know the story. I am a very loyal shopper and would hate to lose my favorite store in Vienna.

I certainly wish to express my thanks to Mr. Bortnick for clearing up the rumor that his store is closing. It does not boad well for HV that it took this long for Magruder's to learn that the rumor was posted here. Guess not too many people read HV. Mr. Bortnick perhaps should not be too concerned about the rumor for as the politicians say: It doesn't matter what they say about me, it's just important that they are talking about me. I have for the last few years railed against any statements that Magruder's is dirty. Yes, years past when the store was very busy and people were tracking in mud faster than they could clean it up you might have thought it was dirty. In recent weeks I have actually noticed how very clean the floors are shiny and all. Believe me it is good news to hear that Magruder's will continue to operate in Vienna and I only hope that some day they will have the support to rebuild their store.

If someone wants to find the source of Magruders rumors...the incestuous stew that is Vienna Town Hall is where you should be looking. In terms of site traffic at HV, there are many a machine member who wish there were no eyeballs here, but alas we don't all get our Santa wish do we?

The source of the Magruders rumor for me was this website. HV posted a headline saying there was a rumor the Magruder's lease wasn't being removed and asking if it was true. This entire thread now has been taken off this website for an unknown reason. Why is "Sorry Rummy" now pointing to the town hall being at fault? They haven't made any public statements. This is the second time recently (the first being Trader Joe's) that this website has posted rumors that they did not research well before posting.

I think it is pretty impressive that Mr. Bortnick wrote in! Had it been business as usual without any checks this rumor, as so many others in town, would have gone on for a very long time. It was days for this rumor to be squelched.
Thank you HV for an alternative outlet to the local rags.

Rumors in Vienna are NOTHING knew - it's how the regime keeps people scared and themselves in power. Who do you think started the rumor Susan Stich wanted to put a 20 story office building where Giant Foods sits when she ran for Town Council (a rumor still spread to this day)?
The only difference now is the transparency this website allows. Throw out the rumor (whether garbage or not) and let the truth come out (or at least a rather spirited discussion). And, please do NOT tell me HV started the TJ rumor - that was none other than Greg Hembree in the local newspaper. But, remember, he just "misspoke."

Gary Bortnick said, "Our store employees take great pride in operating a first class grocery store."
Keep dreaming, Gary. Magruder's would be considered a 1st class grocery store in a 3rd world country (or Manassas), but not here in Vienna.

Get the Facts do you see this as a victory for the machine? Forget 25 years of idiocy, NOW you can feel better than this site was all just made up? The videos, the lies, the bs, all just faked? Clown.

Magruders isn't for everyone, but it fills a niche for shoppers looking to spend a little less, or looking for ethnic products not available elsewhere. I'm glad they're part of the mix.
