The Sidewalk Debate Continues...
From vienna kid:
well you people are all pretty stupid. i walk in the middle of the streets all the time and i have been hit by cars 0 times. killing all the trees in vienna (quote from viennamommy: Icannot think of one tree I value more than a human life. And, that goes for the Cedars along Windover Avenue or the Black Walnuts along Lewis Street. Take 'em all down and put in sidewalks and storm water management.) We can't do that, because all of you idiots drive big gas guzzling SUVs and that would kill the earth. Have a little respect for the earth, cuz if we cut down all the trees, there isn't going to be any more oxygen and we wont be able to live. I would be willing to bet that viennamommy is one of those idiots that supports cutting down all trees in sight. And about all of your arguments about sidewalks, I think I would know more about the effects of them more than any of you, considering I'm 14 and had to walk to my bus stop at 6:30 in the morning, every morning. Honestly, sidewalks don't help a bit when you have to cross lawyers and none of you horrible drivers will stop at a stop sign even long enough to actually stop. When kids in school who are running around are told to stop, they stop. They don't simply stop running and jog or walk, and if they don't stop, they are punished. All you people need to realize that sidewalks don't save lives, better drivers do.

Comments
I'm sorry, but this 14 y.o. will have to wait for the next sidewalk survey to give his/her comments. Then we'll make a nice lil' priority list, have a hearing, and do, um, nothing...

Hey, Vienna Kid. For the record, I do NOT drive a gas-guzzling SUV. I drive a gas-guzzling minivan. The same type of vehicle that your parents undoubtedly use to drive your sorry butt and empty skull around to your various activities that obviously take too much time away from your dire need to study, learn how to spell, learn some grammar, learn how to think, and generally learn to keep your ignorant mouth shut when you have nothing intelligent to say.

Is this vienna kid high on drugs? ... or just taught in Fairfax County School System?
I would have thought at the age of 14, better writing styles would have been taught. I guess, like the wishing for adequate sidewalks in Vienna is like wishing for better education- a pipe dream.
I do agree that drivers in and around Vienna don't give a hoot for pedestrian traffic, but this is sadly, not a problem that afflicts just this local area, it is a 21st century problem that is deeply ingrained in our culture. Pedestrians are obstacles that need to be ignored. Drivers are too self indulgent in their driving, cell phone use, twittering, texting, ipod use, GPS use, and on top of all that, eating and primping themselves while speeding to their next hot spot, work, or layover (home). I still say we would benefit from sidewalks, and it would not have to be done at the destruction of trees as this dolt has suggested.
But to expect Vienna Politicians to do the right thing is also a pipe dream. Maud and her gang don't want things to change, and they won't until these nonsensical gray hairs are extinct, because people like this "14y.o." are too apathetic to get out and vote these sots out of office. That's is the real tragedy in Vienna, people who are old enough to vote, simply do not, and we are held hostage to outdated and idiotic ideology that keeps Vienna from being just a barrio to Tyson Corner. That's what it will continue to be and it will only get worse with more crime, higher taxes, simply because we don't have the infrastructure to build a better commercial tax base to support our citizens and families.
Maud, you must be real proud.
PS don't go hooting that this 14 y.o obviously cannot vote, I know that, but, our younger generation that can vote, is too apathetic, and this 14 y.o. is on the way to filling the mold, statistically speaking, as we don't see younger voters when it comes to our government in Vienna.

Perhaps a high schooler walking to Madison doesn't mind not having sidewalks, but for parents, young kids, and elementary school kids, sidewalks are a necessity to getting around. What part of Lawyers is this person talking about? Other than the stop signs, there is no reason for cars to stop along Lawyers. I forget if there are crosswalks or not at the stop signs, but if you want cars to stop there for pedestrians, this would be a good thing to ask the town to provide.

Hey, I am tired of 14-year old TOV skateboarders doing their thing in the middle of the street at 10 PM dressed in black. Grow Up.

Hey those trees are storm management also

Since I was personally addressed, I felt the need to respond. Maybe there is now *one* human being I care less for than a tree.
Global warming is not the result of 10 trees being taken down in order to put in sidewalks (note: new trees can be planted!). If people could walk safely around town, there would be less cars and less pollution, blah, blah, blah. With my three children
7-years and under, playing a game of Frogger on Lawyers is not my idea of smart. Whether or not the cars *should* stop for pedestrians is irrelevant to me. All it takes is one distracted driver - especially those pesky teen drivers who drive through NW like bats out of hell talking on their cell phones when Madison lets out every afternoon. Walnut Lane is like a turn in the Grand Prix.

I don't know, ?Huh, how many 14 year olds do you think read this site? Reading a site like this is pretty politically active for a kid, if you ask me. The spelling notwithstanding...
