Joan Lillis Takes Vienna "Walk on the Hill" to New Low Comments (17)
Today was the annual Historic Vienna, Inc. "Walk on the Hill". Historic Vienna, Inc. is of course a Town of Vienna created and run corporation. At the "walk" neighbors put this sign up at each participating yard's entrance:

However, today there was something different, because today historic nut job Loan Lillis posted some "extra" discriminatory language on this sign at her front yard entrance:

For those wondering yes those signs are ultimately paid for with tax payer dollars. Should citizens of Vienna be outraged at Lillis or just feel sorry for her? Unfortunately it is just further evidence that our government has been hijacked by corrupt and petty politicians.
However, the best spectacle of the day was launched by queen historic nut Laine Hyde. Apparently Hyde filed a police report because pictures of her house were taken. Yes, this is the same Laine Hyde who is President of Historic Vienna, Inc. and who also sits on the Town of Vienna Commercial ARB. More to come on Hyde.

Historic BS at the Walk on the Hill Comments (1)
How corrupt are the players that back the fake historic routine in Vienna. Well, consider this story from a past "Walk on the Hill" (this year's is tomorrow BTW):
One resident in the Vienna historic district has an old fashioned gas pump in his driveway. On top of it there is an old time sounding oil company. At a prior "Walk on the Hill" a historic busy body marched up to the gas pump with an eager group of people willing to believe anything. Mr. historic busybody then proceeded to tell his group how "historic" the pump was while specifically referring to the name at the top of the pump. Problem? The owner of the pump is an artist who made the name and sign up. That's how phony Vienna is.

Sue Allard: Historic Hypocrite Comments (9)
A few years ago Sue Allard, a resident of the Windover Heights Historic District at 315 West Street, NW, chained herself to a tree to try and prevent her neighbor from building a new house. Guess what? Now Allard is cutting down a massive tree in her front yard to add on to her house. The people involved in the sham that is Vienna's historic district are hypocritical nut jobs. Pictures to follow.

The Big Lie: "Thomas Jefferson Trees"? Comments (4)

Maud Wanted Trees, I Planted Them, So What?
A house in the historic district, built in the 1970s, is for sale. Here is the listing from RE/MAX...and we could not make this up if we tried:
Rare opportunity to live in Historical Windover Heights! This is a dream home-like vacationing in a Bed & Breakfast every day! 3 wonderful fin levels--2 story foyer, spectacular sunroom! Wrap around front veranda, deck, brick patio & walkways! Beautiful gardens w/huge oak trees supposedly planted by Thomas Jefferson! (You won't want to leave)! Walk to Vienna amenities.
Trees by Thomas Jefferson eh? We have heard it all now. Is there anything left for the supporters of historical nonsense in Vienna to make up?

Salsbury Spring Springs a Leak; Town of Vienna Breaks the Law Comments (7)
Salsbury Spring, part of the historic district owned by the Town, has sprung a leak. No joke, that's what the Town said. Right now the Town has multiple dump trucks of gravel on site, trenches being dug, drain tiled being laid, pumps going and workers everywhere. Salsbury Spring is under construction and surprise, surprise, the Town received no Certificate of Appropriateness.
Do only residents have to obey the law? If any resident was undertaking this project in the Windover Heights Historic District without approval, they would be shut down immediately. The party-line response from Dennis King (Director of Public Works)?
"The Department of Public Works is doing maintenance work at Salsbury Spring which is permitted in the Windover area."
Think about that statement. Digging up a so-called historical spring and laying new drain tile is "maintenance". That statement is a load of crap. Period. The integrity of the water flow, the only thing interesting about the spring, has now forever been "fixed" by a sloppy government who could care less about the law. Interestingly, here is what the "Walk on the Hill" brochure says about Salsbury Spring:
"The spring was an unfailing source of water, even during the drought of the early 1930s when many springs and wells went dry. The spring was originally part of the Salsbury farm, but was deeded to the Town of Vienna in 1938. Ayr Garden Club has maintained the surrounding park since the early 1970s."
Questions:
1. Is the Ayr Hill Garden Club paying for this project or is the taxpayer stuck with it?
2. Is the drain tile being laid "harmonious to the old and historical surroundings"?
3. How can digging up a naturally occurring spring be considered maintenance?
You can even see the randomly placed, pointing in no particular direction, Maud enforced "Historic District" signs!

Walk on the 'Fantasy Island' Hill Comments (0)

Mr. Roark, Tattoo, Laine Hyde and Maud Welcome You to Fantasy Island!
Ladies and gentleman, start your engines! It's that time of the year again when Laine Hyde and Maud Robinson team up for the ever enchanting "Walk on the Hill". Sadly, this entire taxpayer funded event is propaganda designed to artificially create 'history'. A good example of the ruse can be seen here:
1. Walk on the Hill Brochure - Early Brochure
2. Walk on the Hill Brochure - New Brochure Reflecting Houses Demolished
Notice the changes between brochures? #3, #19. See how easy 'history' changes on Fantasy Island?

Laine Hyde: One of the Most Dishonest Citizens Ever in the Town of Vienna Comments (0)
Laine Hyde and Maud Robinson run Vienna's only political action committee 'Historic Vienna, Inc.' Don't let the little old lady, garden club spin fool you, utilizing this Town funded organization Hyde (230 Lovers Lane, NW) and Robinson have spent years carefully crafting a 'history' to buttress the existence of the Windover Heights Historic District. Why do this? This gives them the power to give their friends free rides along the approval process, but with people they don't like it gives them the power to harass.

Vienna Council Member Maud Robinson
Historic Vienna Inc., under Hyde's and Robinson's stewardship, puts on a walking tour within the Windover Heights Historic District every year. It is called the 'Walk on the Hill'. During the tour they hand out a brochure that purports to show the historical significance for each and every house in the District.
They do all this to convince people that the area comprising the Windover Heights Historic District is the same now as it was in 1850 (or whatever year they make up). The brochure and the Walk on the Hill are also designed to push their agenda that 'historical preservation' is taking place.
Unfortunately, there is clear evidence that 'history' for Hyde and Robinson changes every time they vote to demolish a house.
Example #1:
Inside the Walk on the Hill brochure from a few years back this entry was logged:
308 West. The original part of this residence is an 18th century log and brick cabin. The beams are still visible inside the house. The shaded, naturalized property is most appropriate to the old cabin.
Then under Hyde's leadership on the Windover Heights Board of Review, the house was razed on her vote. One day it's the 'historic cabin'; the next day it's two new houses. The brochure has since been edited by Hyde and Robinson to read:
308 West and 201 Windover. These two homes were built in 2000 and replace a single structure.
Isn't it amazing how the original story of the cabin just goes 'poof'? We propose the brochure to read:
308 West and 201 Windover. These two homes were built in 2000 and replace the so-called 'historic' cabin Laine Hyde voted to demolish.
Example #2:
Inside that same Walk on the Hill brochure this entry was logged:
316 Windover, known as 'Windover'. Built @1898 and enlarged @1909 by Mr. Whipple for his widowed daughter-in-law, who liked to entertain. There is still the huge tin tank in the attic that was used to gravity feed water to the rest of the house. During the Civil War a round log house was said to house officers.
Then under Hyde's leadership (and her vote) on the Windover Heights Board of Review, the house was demolished to any recognizable extent and expanded to 15,000 square feet. One day it's the 'historic tin tank', the next day it's the largest house ever built in Vienna...and no more tin tank!
The brochure has since been edited by Hyde and Robinson to read:
316 Windover, known as 'Windover'. Built @1898 and enlarged @1909 by Mr. Whipple for his widowed daughter-in-law, who liked to entertain. During the Civil War a round log house was said to house officers. Extensive renovations of the house and gardens in 2003-4.
Extensive renovations? Give us a break! Anyone with a heartbeat living in Vienna saw what happened. They built a brand new house. Gardens? There were no gardens.
Mrs. Robinson the next time you wave this brochure in the air at a Council meeting declaring it the inventory for the Windover Heights Historic District, well at least now the citizens of Vienna will more fully understand your manipulations, spins and half-truths.
